Wilkes Basketball Set to Open MAC Freedom Play at Misericordia Wednesday

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men's and women's basketball teams are set to begin Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play Wednesday night with road contests at Misericordia University. The men's game is slated to tip-off at 6:00 p.m. with the women's game to follow at 8:00 p.m.

Men's Preview:
The Colonels finished the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 7-4 overall record and are coming off an 86-84 victory over Susquehanna University at the Marts Center on Saturday.
 
Senior guard Rob Pecorelli (Huntington, NY/Harborfields) leads the Colonels and ranks fourth among MAC Freedom players with 18.2 points-per-game (ppg). Pecorelli leads the conference averaging 5.1 assists and is eighth with 7.0 rebounds while also ranking fifth with 2.5 three-point field goals per-game and sixth with 1.4 steals. Fellow senior guard Mark Mullins (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) ranks sixth with 17.6 ppg while leading the Colonels and ranking sixth with 7.2 rebounds-per-game (rpg). Mullins is currently fifth in the conference with a .555 field goal percentage and a .796 free throw percentage.
 
Sophomore forward Jake Robel (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) averages 10.6 points (20th) and 6.2 rebounds (11th). Robel leads Wilkes with 16 blocks (3rd), 18 steals (4th) and a .611 field goal percentage (3rd). Sophomore guard Sean Coller (Hershey, PA/Hershey) is fourth in the conference with a .434 three-point field goal percentage as he ranks seventh overall with 23 makes from distance.
 
Wilkes leads the MAC Freedom with 84.6 ppg while allowing 77.1 (6th). The Colonels also currently lead the conference in assist to turnover ratio at 1.17 and scoring margin at +7.5.
 
The Misericordia men enter with a 4-7 overall record after snapping a three-game losing streak on Saturday with a 65-62 victory at home over Stockton University.
 
Senior forward Tony Harding leads the Cougars with 14.1 ppg (9th) and also pulls down 5.9 rpg (12th). Fellow senior forward Noah Rivera is the MAC Freedom leading rebounder with 10.2 rpg and averages a double-double with 10.4 ppg (21st). Freshman guard Nate Kreitzer averages 11.6 ppg (19th) and is the conference leader with 2.2 steals-per-game. He also leads the Cougars with 22 made three-pointers.
 
Misericordia is averaging 64.3 ppg (8th) while allowing 76.9 (5th).
 
Dating back to the 2008-09 season the series between the two schools is tied at 12-12. The Colonels won both meetings last season.
 
Women's Preview:
Wilkes enters at 6-5 overall after completing its non-conference schedule on Saturday with a 59-49 setback to Stockton University at the Marts Center.
 
Junior guard Maddie Kelley (Dallas, PA/Dallas) leads the Colonels with 7.7 ppg and is fourteenth in the conference with 5.3 rpg. Freshman guard Brianna Horton (Verona, NJ/Verona) averages 5.7 rpg (11th) and is the only Colonel to start all 11 games. Freshman guard Macy Berryman (Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mountain East) leads Wilkes and is ninth in the MAC Freedom with 16 three-point field goals made. Senior center Gianna Roberts (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke) ranks fourth in the conference with 10 blocks.
 
Kelley has recorded three double-doubles this season while junior forward Gabby Smicherko (Edwardsville, PA/Wyoming Valley West) has recorded one.
 
Wilkes averages 55.3 ppg (8th) while allowing a conference-best 55.6 ppg. The Colonels lead the conference in opponent field goal percentage at .320.
 
Misericordia's women are 10-1 overall to start the season and are coming off a 76-53 victory over Lebanon Valley College on Saturday.
 
Junior guard/forward Tessa Zamolyi ranks second in the MAC Freedom with 18.2 ppg and leads the conference with 12.5 rpg. Junior guard Erica Haefele and senior forward Jordan Barth each average 11.5 ppg (13th). Barth is third in the conference with 8.2 rpg and freshman guard/forward Gianna Delfino is sixth at 7.6 rpg. Haefele leads the MAC Freedom with a .484 three-point percentage and 31 made threes.  Delfino ranks third in the conference with 3.8 assists-per-game.
 
The Cougars average 77.7 ppg (2nd) while allowing 59.5 ppg (2nd). Misericordia leads the conference with a +18.2 margin of victory and a +15.5 rebounding margin.
 
Dating back to the 2008-09 season the Cougars lead the series 16-5 and have won the past six meetings.
