Wilkes Basketball to Make Short Trip to King's Saturday

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men's and women's basketball teams will continue Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) conference play as they travel to King's College Saturday. The women's game is set to start at 1:00 p.m. followed by the men's game at 3:00 p.m.

Women's Preview:

 Wilkes enters Saturday's contest with an overall 8-14 record and 2-9 conference record after a hard-fought game against Misericordia as the Colonels fell 66-58.

Gianna Roberts (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke) led the team with 14 points against the Cougars. Roberts averages 7.7 points-per-game (ppg) and ranks among the top-25 in rebounding averaging 4.6 rebounds-per-game (rpg). Freshman Brenna Babcock (Sweet Valley, PA/Northwest Area) put up 13 points against Misericordia.

 Junior guard Vanessa Whitecavage (Shenandoah, PA/Marian Catholic) scored 12 points for the Colonels and is fifth on the team in scoring, averaging 5.3 ppg.

Wilkes is currently seventh in the conference for scoring offense averaging 54.0 ppg and fourth in scoring defense allowing 63.4 ppg.

King's enters with a 13-9 overall record and a 7-4 conference record.

Rebecca Prociak leads the Monarchs and the conference in scoring with 18 ppg. Prociak also takes the second spot in the conference for rebounding averaging 10.5 rpg. Samantha Rajza is also ranked among the conference leaders in numerous categories such as scoring with 16.1 ppg and sixth in assists averaging 3.2 assists-per-game (ppg).

King's ranks first in scoring offense at 73.7 ppg and fifth in scoring defense surrendering 66.5 ppg.

The Monarchs hold the 18-3 lead in the series dating back to the 2010 season.

Men's Preview:

Wilkes enters Saturday's game with a 10-12 overall record and a 3-8 record in MAC Freedom play after a 79-63 win over Misericordia Wednesday.

Senior guard Rob Pecorelli (Huntington, NY/Harborfields) led the team with 23 points against the Cougars and ranks first on the team in points averaging 18.8 ppg. Pecorelli also ranks top-five in many conference statistics; taking the fourth spot for scoring and third in assists (averaging 4.1 apg).

Mark Mullins (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) had 16 points against Misericordia and again ranks among the top-ten for both scoring and rebounding averaging 14.8 ppg and 6.8 rpg. Jake Robel (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) contributed another 11 points and leads the team with the highest shooting percentage as he shoots 59.4 percent (97-162) from the field. Donovan Breeding (Manassas, VA/Osbourn) put up another eight points for the Colonels.

Wilkes leads the conference in scoring offense averaging 77.1 ppg and ranks fifth in scoring defense at 74.2 ppg.

Kings' comes into the game with a 12-10 overall record and a 5-6 record in the conference.

Andrew Hudak leads the Monarchs in scoring percentage averaging 11.5 ppg. Hudak also ranks among the top-25 in the conference among scoring and rebounding. Tyler Faux also ranks among the top-25 in the MAC Freedom for scoring, averaging 11.2 ppg.

King's ranks fourth in scoring offense with 73.1 ppg and sixth in scoring defense with 74.9 ppg.

Wilkes holds a 11-8 lead within the series against the Monarchs dating back to 2011.
