Wilkes Open Moving to Invitational Format
WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes University wrestling head coach Jon Laudenslager has announced changes to the format for the Wilkes Open on Wednesday, December 22, 2021.
The Wilkes Open, known as the "Rose Bowl of Wrestling, was last hosted by the Colonels in December 2019 in its 87th installment. It is an open tournament which has included over 40 teams with several Division I programs sending wrestlers to compete.
This year the format will change to an Invitational style tournament where wrestlers will compete for individual titles at the ten different weight classes attached to their respective schools. No team champion will be crowned.
Eight teams will compete at the event including Wilkes, King's, Delaware Valley, Ursinus, Long Island University, Ohio Northern, Shenandoah and Muhlenberg.
Wrestling will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the McHale Athletic Center on 169 South Main Street in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
