Wilkes Women's Tennis Set for First Round of NCAA Tournament
WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's tennis team is set to make its 14
th consecutive trip to the NCAA Championship Tournament as the Colonels travel to Rocky Mount, North Carolina to face Penn State Harrisburg in the first round on Friday at 2:00 p.m.
North Carolina Wesleyan College will host the first, second and third rounds of one region of the tournament at the Slick Family Tennis Center at the Vernon T. Bradley Jr. Tennis Complex and in the newly minted Indoor Sports and Education Facility (ISEF) on campus. Fans can follow the action live at the link below for all matches this weekend.

The winner of Wilkes and Penn State Harrisburg will move on to face regional top seed Mary Washington University in the second round on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
Wilkes is fresh off capturing its 14
th straight MAC Freedom title with a 5-3 win over Stevens Institute of Technology last weekend earning the automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Colonels remain perfect on the season with a 13-0 record and feature two all-conference performers in
Dasha Yakhnis (Verona, NJ/Verona) and
Dagney Markle (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford). Yakhnis plays the top singles position for Wilkes standing 7-4 overall and teams with
Zoe Klein (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) to go 7-3 at No. 1 doubles. Markle stands 7-2 overall from the No. 2 singles spot and owns a 6-1 record at No. 2 doubles where she teams with
Sarah Malone (Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock).
First year
Cassidy Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) has yet to lose in singles play this season standing 10-0 including a 6-0 record at the No. 3 position. Reigning MAC Freedom Tournament MVP Malone plays the No. 4 position standing 6-0. Klein (9-0 at No. 5) and
Alexa Cieri (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) (9-0 at No. 6) round out the singles lineup for Wilkes.
Penn State Harrisburg moved to 8-0 on the season by defeating Northern Vermont-Johnson on Sunday to claim the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after topping Lancaster Bible in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship the week prior.
