Wilkes Women's Tennis Set to Host MAC Freedom Quarterfinal against King's

WILKES-BARRE – The top-seeded Wilkes University women's tennis team is set to host eighth-seeded King's College in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) Quarterfinal match Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex.

Live video will be available and can be found here through the Wilkes website. Per Wilkes' spectator policy, spectators will be limited to three guests per Wilkes' student-athlete and spectators from the visiting team are prohibited.

The Colonels are the No. 1 seed in the MAC Freedom Championship after completing the regular season with a 7-0 record in conference play and 10-0 overall. Wilkes has won the last 13 MAC Freedom titles to advance to the NCAA Tournament.

King's placed as the No. 8 seed with a 1-6 league record and the Monarchs are 1-8 overall.

Wilkes defeated King's twice this season 9-0. The first meeting opened the season on March 20th and was a non-conference tilt. The most recent meeting on April 14th was the MAC Freedom match. In that match the Colonels swept doubles with Dasha Yakhnis (Verona, NJ/Verona) and Zoe Klein (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) winning 8-2 at No. 1 doubles over Diana Rodriguez and Alexis Zalutko. Dagney Markle (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) and Alexa Cieri (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) won 8-3 at No. 2 over Addie Atkins and Lauren Lamarca. Sarah Malone (Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock) and Cassidy Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) won 8-1 at No. 3 over Jackie Costello and Braelan Drollas.

In singles play, Yakhnis defeated Rodriguez 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1, Markle won 6-1, 6-1 over Zalutko at No. 2, Malone defeated Atkins 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3, Greenman won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4 over Lamarca, Klein won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 over Mikayla Reynolds, and Cieri defeated Drollas 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.

Wilkes has a 50-7 overall singles record on the season and a 29-1 doubles record. King's has an 11-42 overall singles record and an 8-19 doubles record. Greenman is 9-0 in singles play while Cieri and Klein are 7-0 to lead the Colonels. The pair of Klein and Yakhnis are 6-1 in doubles action together while Greenman and Markle have perfect 10-0 records across doubles action with multiple partners. Lauren Lamarca went 4-2 in singles play to lead the Monarchs and the team of Atkins and Lamarca went 3-2 as a pairing in doubles.

The 2021 MAC Freedom Women's Tennis Championship is slated to take place on Tuesday, May 4 with the quarterfinal round, Wednesday, May 6 with the semifinal round and conclude on Saturday, May 8 with the title match. The MAC Freedom Champion will earn the conference's NCAA Division III Championship automatic qualifier (AQ).

The other quarterfinal matches feature No. 2 seed Stevens Institute of Technology hosting No. 7 Lycoming, No. 3 DeSales hosting No. 6 FDU-Florham, and No. 4 Misericordia hosting No. 5 Arcadia.
