Amerise and Farmer Capture 2021 MAC Individual Titles for Wilkes Women's Tennis

Theresa Amerise (Mountain Top, PA/Holy Redeemer) and
Sydney Farmer (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township) won singles titles at the 2021 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Individual Championship for the Wilkes University women's tennis team on Sunday at the Kirby Park and the Ralston Athletic Complex tennis courts. Wilkes now has 65 singles champions all-time at the conference individual championship.

Amerise capped off a perfect start to her collegiate singles career on Sunday with a victory in the No. 5 singles championship match as she rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over top seeded Isabella Dona of Stevens Institute of Technology. Earlier in the day the No. 2 seed knocked off third seeded Cassandra Benderavich without dropping a game, 6-0, 6-0. She finished the weekend 3-0 to become the MAC Champion at No. 5 singles.
Farmer also capped off a 3-0 weekend to begin her career to become the No. 7 singles MAC Champion. Today she defeated Nicole Pangiochi of Misericordia in the final 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 after dispatching Rachel Dougherty of Messiah 6-4, 6-3 in the semifinals.
Cassidy Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) earned runner-up at No. 3 singles after she earned a 6-2, 6-2 semifinal victory over Rebekah Scheaffer of Messiah. The second seeded Greenman faced top seed Alexis Fuda in the final but fell 2-6, 3-6 to the player from Stevens. The sophomore finished the weekend 3-1 overall.
Alexa Cieri (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) also placed runner-up at No. 4 singles and went 3-1 overall at the championship. Today the second-seeded senior defeated Rachel Rineer of Alvernia 6-4, 6-1 in the semifinals before dropping the hard fought final 6-3, 3-6, 8-10 to Lydia Barbour of Misericordia.
Zoe Klein (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) lost her No. 2 singles semifinal to top seeded Audrey Heaberlin of Stevens 2-6, 0-6. The sophomore went 2-1 overall this weekend.
Kaitlyn O'Neil (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe) dropped her No. 6 singles semifinal match to second seeded Hannah Olson of Messiah 2-6, 4-6. The sophomore finished the tournament 2-1 overall.
Brianna Pizzano of Misericordia was the No. 1 singles champion, Emily Brecker of Misericordia took the No. 2 singles title, and Juliette Marchisio of Stevens won the No. 6 singles title to round out the singles champions.
The team of
Dasha Yakhnis (Verona, NJ/Verona) and Klein earned runner-up at No. 1 doubles. This morning the third seeded duo defeated second seeded Elsa Ostermarker and Lauren Ostermann of York (Pa.) 8-2 in the semifinals. The top seeded team of Pizzano and Brecker of Misericordia then became double champions on the day by taking the No. 1 doubles title match in a tight 8-6 battle with Yakhnis and Klein, who finished 3-1 on the weekend overall.
Amerise and O'Neil teamed up at No. 3 doubles and advanced to the finals as the No. 2 seed with a semifinal victory over Abbey DeLisio and Kendall Halsey of Lebanon Valley by an 8-6 score. The top seeded team of Polina Odintseva and Alexis Fuda then won 8-1 to take the championship as Amerise and O'Neil finished 2-1 on the weekend and runners-up.
Heaberlin and Marchisio of Stevens won the No. 2 doubles title with two wins today and yesterday Meghan Pineau and Lindsay Shoemaker won the No. 4 doubles title out of a field of four teams.
