Wilkes Basketball Ready for Road Matchups at King's Wednesday

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's and men's basketball teams are set to travel to crosstown rival King's College for a pair of Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) contests Wednesday at McGrane Gymnasium. The women's game will tip at 6:00 p.m. followed by the men's contest at 8:00 p.m.

Women's Preview:
Wilkes enters the conference matchup against King's with a 3-4 record in the MAC Freedom and a 4-9 record overall following a 76-51 loss to Stevens on Saturday. The Colonels are 2-5 on the road this season.

First year Jordyn Jennings (York, PA/Northeastern) scored a career high 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting and 2-for-2 from three against Stevens.

Katelyn Kinczel (Highland Heights, OH/Mayfield) leads Wilkes and ranks ninth in the MAC Freedom with 12.3 points-per-game (ppg). She is third in the league with 33 made three pointers and leads the conference with a .363 three-point shooting percentage. Brianna Horton (Verona, NJ/Verona) is second on the team with both 8.2 ppg and 5.0 rebounds-per-game (rpg).

Julia Marino (Turnersville, NJ/Washington Township) leads the conference with 5.2 assists-per-game (apg) totaling 57 for the season. Erin Shober (Reading, PA/Wilson) leads the Colonels with 5.3 rpg and is the MAC Freedom leader with 2.3 blocks-per-game (bpg) as she has totaled 27 this season. She is third on the team in scoring at 7.4 ppg.

Wilkes is seventh of nine teams in the MAC Freedom with a 55.2 scoring average and tied for eighth defensively allowing 65.7 ppg.

King's comes in with a 4-3 record in the conference and the Monarchs are 9-6 overall. King's is 6-1 at home this season.

Samantha Rajza and Emily Morano are the top two scorers in the league with 19.8 and 19.6 ppg respectively. Morano leads the team with 6.4 rpg and leads the MAC Freedom with a .500 field goal shooting percentage. Rajza is the conference leader with 41 made threes and tied for fourth with 2.4 steals-per-game (spg). Emily Kriston is third in the conference with 3.9 apg.

King's is second in the MAC Freedom with 70.4 ppg and ranks seventh allowing 64.9 ppg.

The Monarchs hold a 19-3 lead in the series dating back to the 2009-10 season. The Colonels last win came on February 9, 2019 with a 58-55 win at the Marts Center.

Men's Preview:
Wilkes enters with a 1-6 record in the MAC Freedom and a 3-10 mark overall following a 77-57 loss to Stevens on Saturday. The Colonels are 3-5 on the road this season.
 
Drake Marshall (Gainesville, VA/Patriot) led Wilkes with 16 points against Stevens while Nickerson DeMelfi (Newbury Park, CA/Newbury Park) scored 14 points and Donovan Breeding (Manassas, VA/Osbourn) contributed a season high 12 points. Derek Heiserman (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) had a season high 10 rebounds.
 
Trent Fisher (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) leads the MAC Freedom with 16.5 ppg and his 6.7 rpg rank ninth in the league. Marshall is ninth in the league in scoring at 13.0 ppg and tenth with 6.5 rpg. Matthew Davidheiser (Reading, PA/Exeter Township) is also scoring in double figures for the Colonels at 10.7 ppg. Davidheiser leads the Colonels with 19 made three pointers and is third in the league lead with a .422 three-point shooting percentage.

Marshall is third in the conference with 4.2 apg, Fisher is fifth in the league with 1.6 bpg and is fourth with 1.6 spg.

Wilkes is fourth in the MAC Freedom in scoring offense at 76.3 ppg while ranking seventh in scoring defense at 77.3 ppg.

King's comes in at 2-5 in the conference and 6-7 overall. The Monarchs are 2-3 at home this season.

Carmine Castiello leads King's with 12.3 ppg which is tied for 11th in the conference. Chris Patton (10.9), Noah Tanner (10.8) and Tyler Faux (10.6) also score in double figures for the Monarchs. Patrick Galvin leads the team and ranks tied for sixth in the league with 6.9 rpg. Tanner is fourth in the conference with 3.8 apg and third with 1.9 spg. Faux leads the Monarchs with 26 three pointers.

King's is ranked second in the MAC Freedom with 77.5 ppg and is fifth allowing 73.8 ppg.

Wilkes leads the series with King's 11-9 dating back to the 2010-11 season. The Monarchs have won three of the last four meetings.
