Wilkes Basketball to Face MAC Freedom Leaders DeSales Wednesday

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's and men's basketball teams are set to travel to the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) leaders for a pair of contests Wednesday at Billera Hall Gymnasium against DeSales University. The women's game will tip at 6:00 p.m. followed by the men's contest at 8:00 p.m.

Women's Preview:
Wilkes enters the conference matchup at DeSales with a 4-5 record in the MAC Freedom and at 5-10 overall following a 54-51 victory over FDU-Florham on Saturday. The Colonels are 2-6 on the road this season.

Brianna Horton (Verona, NJ/Verona) led Wilkes with 14 points against FDU-Florham including the go-ahead three with nine second remaining. Jordyn Jennings (York, PA/Northeastern) added 12 points and a career high nine rebounds in the game.

Katelyn Kinczel (Highland Heights, OH/Mayfield) leads Wilkes and ranks tenth in the MAC Freedom with 12.3 points-per-game (ppg). She is third in the league with 2.8 made three pointers per-game and is third in the conference with a .363 three-point shooting percentage. Horton is second on the team with both 8.7 ppg and 5.0 rebounds-per-game (rpg). She is fourth in the MAC Freedom with a .354 three-point shooting percentage.

Julia Marino (Turnersville, NJ/Washington Township) leads the conference with 5.0 assists-per-game (apg) totaling 63 for the season. Erin Shober (Reading, PA/Wilson) leads the Colonels with 5.1 rpg and is tied for the MAC Freedom lead with 2.1 blocks-per-game (bpg) as she has totaled 30 this season. She is third on the team in scoring at 6.9 ppg.

Wilkes is seventh of nine teams in the MAC Freedom with a 54.5 scoring average and are seventh defensively allowing 64.2 ppg.

DeSales comes in with a perfect 9-0 record in the conference and the Bulldogs are 11-3 overall. DeSales is 5-0 at home this season.

Averi Jordan, the reigning MAC Freedom Player of the Week, ranks third in the league with 18.9 ppg. Mikaela Reese is ninth in the scoring at 12.5 ppg and Megan Bealer also averages in double figures with 10.9 ppg. Jordan is second in the league with 8.8 rpg and Bealer is tenth with 6.9. Amelia Saunders leads the conference with a .397 three-points shooting percentage and Maria Newsome is sixth with 3.8 apg. Reese is tied with Shober for the top spot with 2.1 bpg and is tied for sixth in the league with 2.1 steals-per-game (spg.)

DeSales is first in the MAC Freedom with 75.3 ppg and ranks second allowing 51.9 ppg.

The Bulldogs lead the series dating back to the 2008-2009 season 26-0. DeSales won the first meeting this season 90-42 at the Marts Center on December 1st.

Men's Preview:
Wilkes enters with a 3-6 record in the MAC Freedom and a 5-11 mark overall following a 65-59 non-conference loss to Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Monday night. Previously the Colonels had won back-to-back MAC Freedom games last week against King's and FDU-Florham. The Colonels are 4-5 on the road this season.
 
Drake Marshall (Gainesville, VA/Patriot), the current MAC Freedom Player of the Week, led Wilkes with 23 points against Penn State Wilkes-Barre while Trent Fisher (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) recorded his third career double-double with 17 points and a career high 13 rebounds.
 
Fisher leads the MAC Freedom with 15.8 ppg and his 7.1 rpg rank sixth in the league. Marshall is fourth in the league in scoring at 15.3 ppg following three consecutive 20-plus point efforts. He is also tenth with 6.5 rpg. Matthew Davidheiser (Reading, PA/Exeter Township) is also scoring in double figures for the Colonels at 11.6 ppg. Davidheiser leads the Colonels with 29 made three pointers and is leading the league with a .468 three-point shooting percentage while tying for fourth with 2.1 made three per-game.

Marshall is third in the conference with 4.2 apg, Fisher is fifth in the league with 1.6 bpg and is fourth with 1.6 spg.

Wilkes is fifth in the MAC Freedom in scoring offense at 76.1 ppg while ranking fifth in scoring defense at 74.5 ppg.

DeSales comes in receiving votes in the current D3hoops.com Top 25 as the Bulldogs are 9-0 in the MAC Freedom and 16-1 overall. DeSales is 6-1 at home this season.

Elijah Eberly (10.1 ppg) and Matt Kachelries (10.0 ppg) lead a balanced Bulldogs attack that also has three more players scoring above 9.0 ppg. Kachelries leads the league with 5.8 apg. Ryan Boylan leads the team with 6.3 rpg. Jordan Holmqvist is second in the conference with a .444 three-point shooting percentage and tied for second with 2.4 threes per-game. Keba Mitchell is second in the MAC Freedom with 1.9 bpg and Mason Barnes is second with 1.9 spg.

DeSales is ranked fourth in the MAC Freedom with 76.3 ppg and is first allowing 62.8 ppg.

The Bulldogs lead the series dating back to the 2008-2009 season 21-7 and won the meeting this season on December 1st 65-61 at the Marts Center when they were ranked No. 25. DeSales has won six straight against the Colonels with the last win for the Navy and Gold coming on February 2, 2019, by a 78-77 score at the Marts Center.
