Colonels Notebook
• Wilkes wrestling is set to host its first dual match of the 2022-2023 season as welcome Delaware Valley University in the Marts Center on Friday, December 9 at 7:00 p.m.

• Wilkes placed third of nine teams at the Blue Jay Classic. Eight grapplers finished in the top-four for the Colonels, with Austin Fashouer (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) and Cameron Butka (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) taking first place in the 125 and 197 weight classes respectively.

• Fashouer won a 5-4 decision over Roanoke's Mac Cafurello in the 125 title match. Butka got payback by beating Jaedyn Harris of McDaniel 6-4 in overtime in the 197 finals. Butka fell to Harris in the Dr. Sam Case Duals, helping the Green Terror own the tie breaker and earning a victory over the Colonels 23-22.

• Caleb Burkhart (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville) finished second in the 285 pound bracket, as he fell to title winner and No.13 ranked wrestler by NWCA Dylan Waller.

• Jack Bauer (Ringoes, NJ/Hunterdon Central) (141), James Geiger (Dallas, PA/Dallas) (174), Christopher Nuss (Gore, VA/James Wood) (184), and Hunter Lowe (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) (197) placed third in their weight classes while Nevin Ranch took fourth place at 285.

• Wilkes competed in the Dr. Sam Case Duals on November 20 where they had three dual matches. They beat John Hopkins 24-23 and Pittsburgh-Bradford 35-13 before falling in their last meet to McDaniel 22-23.

• The Colonels would fall to Elizabethtown 24-22 in their dual match on Friday, November 18.

• Wilkes also competed in two other tournaments this season: Ned McGinley Invitational and Racich Rumble. The Colonels had nine grapplers finish in the top-6 at Ned McGinley while having two wrestlers in the Racich Rumble. Bauer took the 141 pound title while Geiger won the 174 title at the McGinley tournament.

• Five grapplers were ranked in the NWCA Individual Regional Southeast Rankings, which were released on December 7th. Butka was ranked third in the 197 pound division. Bauer (141) and Geiger (174) were placed fourth in their respective weight classes. Fashouer and Burkhart rounded out the rankings as they were placed fifth at the 125 and 285 divisions respectively.

• In the d3wrestle.com individual rankings that came out on November 28th, Fashouer and Butka were listed as Contenders in their respective weight classes while Bauer and Geiger made the Honorable Mention section.

• The Colonels 2022-2023 roster goes 32 deep with a class breakdown of: 5 seniors; 7 juniors; 9 sophomores; and 11 first-years.

• The roster features athletes from six states: Pennsylvania – 17; New Jersey – 9; New York – 2; Virginia – 2; Maryland – 1; Louisiana - 1.

• Delaware Valley has two wrestlers ranked in the NWCA Southeast rankings. Ryan Kelly was picked fourth in the 133 weight class while Jaden Roberts is ranked sixth at the 184 division.

• Delaware Valley has grapplers that have won titles in tournaments this season. Austin Williams took first place at the Ithaca Invitational and Baldwin Wallace Invitational at 285. Luke Moore joined Williams at the Baldwin Wallace Invitational and took the 174 title.

• The Aggies also have wrestlers who can compete with top ranked competitors. Jacob Blair finished second at the Racich Rumble, with a notable victory over Ursinus' Terry Adams, who was a national qualifier last year and came into the season ranked seventh in the nation at the 125 weight class.
