Wilkes Basketball Set to Host Crosstown Rival King's Tuesday Night

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's and men's basketball teams are set to host crosstown rival King's College for a pair of Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) contests Tuesday at the Marts Center. The women's game will tip at 6:00 p.m. followed by the men's contest at 8:00 p.m. A women's basketball senior day ceremony will begin the evening.

Women's Preview:
Wilkes enters the conference matchup against King's tied for sixth place with a 6-8 record in the MAC Freedom and at 7-13 overall. The Colonels are 4-5 at home this season. Wilkes dropped the matchup at King's 58-47 on January 19th.

Katelyn Kinczel (Highland Heights, OH/Mayfield) leads Wilkes and is tied for 11th in the MAC Freedom with 10.9 points-per-game (ppg). She is fourth in the league with 2.4 made three pointers per-game and is fifth in the conference with a .339 three-point shooting percentage. Brianna Horton (Verona, NJ/Verona) is second on the team with 8.2 ppg and leads the Colonels with 5.4 rebounds-per-game (rpg).

Julia Marino (Turnersville, NJ/Washington Township) is tied for second in the conference with 4.1 assists-per-game (apg) totaling 74 for the season. Erin Shober (Reading, PA/Wilson) is second on the Colonels with 4.8 rpg and is third in the MAC Freedom with 1.7 blocks-per-game (bpg) as she has totaled 33 this season. She is third on the team in scoring at 6.7 ppg.

Kinczel (12), Horton (11), Marino (10), Kendra Smith (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville) (10), Julianna Askins (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) (9), and Shober (8) contributed to a balanced offense that defeated Delaware Valley 64-49 on Saturday. Juliann Duignam (Tatamy, PA/Nazareth) will be recognized prior to the game during a Senior Night ceremony.

Wilkes is seventh of nine teams in the MAC Freedom with a 52.9 scoring average and are eighth defensively allowing 62.8 ppg.

King's comes into the game in third place with a 9-5 record in the conference and the Monarchs are 14-8 overall. King's is 3-6 on the road this season.

The Monarchs possess the top two scorers in the league in Emily Morano (19.5 ppg) and Samantha Rajza (18.6 ppg). Morano leads King's with 6.9 rpg while leading the conference with a .500 shooting percentage and ranking second with a .390 three-point shooting percentage. Rajza is second in the MAC Freedom with 2.9 made threes per-game. Emily Kriston leads the league with 4.3 apg and is fifth with 2.3 steals-per-game (spg).

King's is second in the MAC Freedom with 68.5 ppg and ranks sixth allowing 61.9 ppg.

The Monarchs lead the series 20-3 dating back to the 2009-2010 season.

Men's Preview:
Wilkes enters in seventh place with a 4-10 record in the MAC Freedom and at 7-15 overall. The Colonels are 2-7 at home this season. The Colonels won 88-70 at King's on January 19th.
 
Trent Fisher (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) has recorded six double-double performances in the past seven games. The sophomore is the MAC Freedom leader with 16.5 ppg and his 8.9 rpg rank in a tie for fourth in the league. Fisher is sixth in the league with 1.7 bpg, tied for sixth with 1.5 steals-per-game, and ninth with a .478 field goal percentage.
 
Drake Marshall (Gainesville, VA/Patriot) is third in the league in scoring at 14.9 ppg. He is also tenth with 6.1 rpg. Marshall is sixth in the conference with 3.6 apg and is eighth with a .494 field goal percentage.
 
Matthew Davidheiser (Reading, PA/Exeter Township) is third on the team with 9.7 ppg. Davidheiser leads the Colonels with 33 made three pointers and is second in the league with a .429 three-point shooting percentage. Sean Coller (Hershey, PA/Hershey) (28 made threes), Nickerson DeMelfi (Newbury Park, CA/Newbury Park) (25), and Cayden Merrifield (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) (24) have also made an impact from beyond the arc for the Colonels this season. Jason Eberhart (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) scored a career high eight points on Saturday at Delaware Valley.
 
Wilkes is sixth in the MAC Freedom in scoring offense at 71.3 ppg while ranking fifth in scoring defense at 70.9 ppg.

King's comes in with a 3-11 MAC Freedom record and in eighth place. The Monarchs are 7-13 overall and 4-6 on the road this season.

Carmine Castiello leads King's with 11.3 ppg while Tyler Faux also scores in double figures with 10.8 ppg and is tied for fourth in the league with 2.1 made threes per-game. Patrick Galvin leads the team with 5.6 rpg. Noah Tanner is third in the MAC Freedom with 3.9 apg and tied for third with 1.8 spg.

King's is fifth in the MAC Freedom with 72.1 ppg and is sixth allowing 73.5 ppg.

The Colonels are 12-9 in the rivalry dating back to the 2010-2011 season.
