Wilkes Hires Laymon as New Women's Lacrosse Head Coach

WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes University Athletic Director Scott Musa has announced the hire of Maegan Laymon as the new head coach of the Wilkes women's lacrosse program.

Laymon becomes the fifth coach in program history, entering her first head coaching job at the collegiate level.

"Maegan impressed everyone she came in contact with at Wilkes with her energy, knowledge, and passion for women's lacrosse," Musa said. "She is exactly the type of coach we were looking for as we build our program into one that is prepared to compete for Landmark Conference championships."

"Wilkes University's academic foundation aligns with me as a person and a coach," Laymon said. "The opportunity to guide student-athletes through balancing academics and athletics at Wilkes University is something that I am looking forward to. There is a tremendous amount of room for growth within the program, especially with the transition to the Landmark Conference. I am excited to tackle this challenge while competing at a high level in the Landmark Conference."

"I would like to thank the Director of Athletics Scott Musa and Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance/Head Women's Soccer Coach John McNichol, and the entire search committee for the incredible opportunity to lead the Women's Lacrosse program at Wilkes University."

Prior to Wilkes, Laymon was the varsity lacrosse coach at the Lausanne Collegiate School in Memphis, Tenn., and led the program to two winning seasons in 2022 and 2023. She led the Lynx to multiple high-profile seasons, as the team placed third (2022) and second (2023) in Tennessee's West 1 Region for the first time in school history. She also recorded the second highest goalscoring season in school history in 2022 and coached two all-region selections. In addition to her responsibilities as head coach, Laymon was also the Director of Physical Education at Lausanne as well as a middle school soccer coach.

Across her career, Laymon has been an assistant women's lacrosse coach at Alderson Broaddus University, Lourdes University, and SUNY Polytechnic Institute, coaching multiple all-conference selections including the 2017 All NEAC Offensive Player of the Year during her time at SUNY Polytechnic.

"My initial vision for the program is to establish a strong foundation while we work towards developing a new culture. My expectations for the players are to show up every day and give it their all, on and off the field. We want to compete, play hard, play smart, and play together."

Laymon was a dual-sport Division III student-athlete during her time at Green Mountain College where she played women's lacrosse and women's soccer. She graduated in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies. In 2024, she graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a master's degree in sports administration.
