Wilkes Women's Tennis Competes at King's Invitational to Open Fall Campaign
 
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's tennis team opened its 2024 fall campaign competing at the King's Invitational hosted by King's College at the Kirby Park Courts.
 
At No. 1 singles, Tea Amerise (Mountain Top, PA/Holy Redeemer) was a 6-3, 7-6 (2) winner in her quarterfinal match before taking a straight set 6-2, 6-3 decision in the semifinals with a win over Ashley Kenia of King's. From there Amerise fell 6-0, 6-1 to champion Brianna Pisano of Misericordia.
 
Julia Spaeth (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg Area) saw her first collegiate action at No. 2 singles taking a 6-1, 6-2 win in her quarterfinal match over Penn College. Spaeth then fell 6-1, 6-4 in the semifinals to eventual champion Gabrielle Chantiloupe of Misericordia.
 
Kensington Edmond (Mount Joy, PA/Donegal) played at No. 3 singles for Wilkes falling in a thrilling match 7-6, 5-7, 10-8 to King's Sarah Stettler.
 
Isabel Schreffler (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) made her collegiate debut at No. 4 singles dropping a 6-4, 6-1 decision to Lycoming's Sarah Stahl.
 
Karlee Yuscavage (Hanover Twp., PA/Hanover Area) competed at No. 5 singles for the Colonels falling 6-3, 6-3 to the University of Scranton's Paige Hunt.
 
In doubles play, the No. 1 duo of Amerise and Sydney Farmer (Lacey Township, NJ/Lacey Township) won 8-0 in the quarterfinals over Penn College before dropping an 8-3 decision to a team from Misericordia. At No. 2 Spaeth and Schreffler teamed for an 8-1 win in the quarterfinals over Penn College before falling 8-1 to a pair from Misericordia in the semifinals. Edmond and Ava Vacula (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area Secondary Center) played at No. 3 doubles winning 8-2 in the quarters before falling to a duo from Misericordia in the semis.
 
Wilkes returns to the court Wednesday, September 18 with a dual match at Immaculata University starting at 3:00 p.m.
