Wilkes Basketball to Face Drew for Midweek Matchup
 

WILKES- BARRE - The Wilkes University men's and women's basketball teams will be facing Drew on Wednesday night for a midweek Landmark matchup. The men will be on the road and the women will be hosting, with tip off for both games set for 7 p.m.

Men's Preview

The Colonels are looking to continue their three game win streak this Wednesday as they take on Drew on the road. They are currently 11-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play, most recently coming off a 82-74 victory over Elizabethtown at the Palestra this past weekend.

Sitting at the top of the conference in scoring is Lucas Lesko (Northampton, PA/Northampton), who is averaging 23.7 points per game. Lesko hit the 1,000 points milestone against Elizabethtown on Sunday along with Cayden Merrifield (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) who is 12th in the conference in scoring, averaging 14.3 points per game. Lesko is second in the conference in rebounds with an average of 7.7 per game and Jack Argento (Hershey, PA/Hershey) sits in ninth with an average of 5.8 rebounds per game. Merrifield leads the team in assists and is second in the Landmark with an average of 4.4 assists per game. Joey Zvorsky (New Cumberland, PA/Cedar Cliff) follows, averaging 2.8 assists per game and is ranked ninth in the conference. Lesko is fourth in the conference in blocked shots with an average of 1.2 per game and Argento leads the team in steals, averaging 1.6 per game. 

The team averages 79.3 points per game offensively, leaving them ranked fourth in the conference in scoring. The Colonels are shooting .454 from the field, .332 on three point shot attempts and .671 from the free throw line. They lead the conference in combined team rebounds, with an average of 40.3 per game. 

The Rangers will be entering the contest with a 10-3 overall record and are 6-0 in the Landmark, most recently defeating Catholic 76-71 in overtime this past weekend. 

Josh Kline leads the team in scoring and is ranked eighth in the conference, averaging 15.2 points per game, followed by Malcolm Newman with an average of 11.0 points per game. David Musial leads the Rangers in rebounds, averaging 6.7 per game, followed by Kline with an average of 5.7 per game. Kline leads in assists and blocked shots with averages of 2.8 and 0.7 per game. Malcolm leads the team and is third in the conference in steals, averaging 2.0 steals per game. 

Drew is averaging 89.5 points per game and is leading the conference in scoring. The Rangers are shooting .468 from the field, .343 on three point shot attempts and .699 from the free throw line. They follow behind the Colonels in combined team rebounds at second, averaging 38.8 per game. 

 

Women's Preview

The Colonels are looking towards their first win this Wednesday as they take on Drew. They enter the match with an 0-13 overall record and are 0-6 in conference play, most recently falling to No.  17 Elizabethtown 54-83 on Sunday. 

In scoring, Yamirelis Matos (Springfield, MA/Chicopee) leads the team and is ranked fourth in the conference with an average of 16.0 points per game. Nadia Evanosky (Dallas, PA/Dallas) follows with an average of 7.8 points per game. Evanosky and Matos also lead in rebounds, both with a 7.7 rebound average per game, leaving them at third and fourth in the conference. Madison Robel (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) is ninth in the conference in blocked shots, averaging 0.8 per game, and Evanosky is eighth in the Landmark in blocks averaging 0.7 per game. Evanosky is also second in the conference in steals with an average of 3.4 per game.

The Colonels are currently averaging 44.5 points per game, and are shooting .267 from the field. On three point shot attempts, they are shooting .186 and from the free throw line, they are shooting .644. In combined team rebounds, Wilkes is averaging 36.0 rebounds per game. 

The Rangers are currently sitting 8-5 overall and are 3-3 in the conference, most recently falling to No. 11 Catholic by a score of 49-78. 

Gianna Pica sits at second in the conference in scoring, averaging 18.5 points per game. Amy Rachilla follows at 10th in the conference, with an average of 12.7 points per game. Pica leads the team in rebounds with an average 6.8 per game. Rachilla leads in assists with an average of 3.5 per game and Brenna Hezel leads the team in blocked shots with an average of 1.5 per game, good for fourth in the conference. 

Offensively, the Rangers are averaging 65.3 points per game and are shooting .368 from the field. On three point shot attempts, they are shooting .297 and are shooting .685 from the field. In combined team rebounds, Drew is averaging 39.0 rebounds per game.
