Wilkes Basketball Set to Host Susquehanna on Saturday

WILKES-BARRE - The Wilkes University men's and women's basketball teams are set to host Susquehanna this Saturday in a Landmark matchup following tough losses against Drew on Wednesday night. The women will tip off at 2 p.m. followed by the men at 4 p.m.

Men's Preview

The Colonels are coming off a heartbreaking 84-82 loss against Drew on Wednesday and will be looking to bounce back with a win against the Riverhawks. Overall, the Colonels are 11-3 and are 5-2 in conference play. 

Sitting at the top of the conference in scoring is Lucas Lesko (Northampton, PA/Northampton), who is averaging 23.8 points per game. Cayden Merrifield (Scranton, PA/West Scranton), who is 12th in the conference in scoring, follows behind Lesko, and is averaging 14.1 points per game. Lesko is second in the conference in rebounds with an average of 7.6 per game and Jack Argento (Hershey, PA/Hershey) sits in ninth with an average of 5.7 rebounds per game. Merrifield leads the team in assists and is second in the Landmark with an average of 4.4 assists per game. Joey Zvorsky (New Cumberland, PA/Cedar Cliff) follows, averaging 2.9 assists per game and is ranked eighth in the conference. Lesko is fourth in the conference in blocked shots with an average of 1.1 per game and Argento leads the team in steals, averaging 1.6 per game. 

The team averages 79.5 points per game offensively, leaving them ranked third in the conference in scoring. The Colonels are shooting .462 from the field, .331 on three point shot attempts and .674 from the free throw line. They lead the conference in combined team rebounds, with an average of 39.9 per game. 

The River Hawks enter the matchup with a 7-7 overall record and are 4-3 in conference play, having most recently defeated Lycoming 90-65 on Wednesday night. 

Billy Anderson leads the team in scoring, averaging 12.3 points per game, followed by Brandon Lavitt who is averaging 10.1 points per game. Lavitt leads in rebounds and is fifth in the conference, averaging 6.3 per game. Jackson Van Wagener leads the team and is sixth in the conference in assists with an average of 3.0 per game. Audric Washington is second in the conference in blocked shots, averaging 1.3 per game. 

Offensively, the River Hawks are averaging 79.6 points per game and are shooting .474 from the field, good for second in the conference. On three point shot attempts, they are shooting .315 and from the free throw line they are shooting .732, also good for second in the conference. 

 

Women's Preview

The Colonels are coming off a hard fought loss against the Rangers on Wednesday and are looking for a win over the River Hawks on Saturday. The women are currently 0-14 overall and 0-7 in conference play.

In scoring, Yamirelis Matos (Springfield, MA/Chicopee) leads the team and is ranked fifth in the conference with an average of 15.6 points per game. Nadia Evanosky (Dallas, PA/Dallas) follows with an average of 7.6 points per game. Evanosky and Matos also lead in rebounds, both with Evanosky at a 7.8 rebound average per game and Matos at 7.7, leaving them at third and fifth in the conference. Evanosky is eighth in the conference in blocked shots, averaging 0.7 per game, and Madison Robel (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) follows, also with an average of 0.7 blocks per game. Evanosky is also second in the conference in steals with an average of 3.6 per game.

The Colonels are currently averaging 44.6 points per game, and are shooting .268 from the field. On three point shot attempts, they are shooting .185 and from the free throw line, they are shooting .646. In combined team rebounds, Wilkes is averaging 36.5 rebounds per game.

Carly George leads in rebounds with an average of 7.7 per game, good for sixth in the conference. Julia Pinckert is eighth in the conference in assists, averaging 2.9 per game and George leads in blocked shots with an average of 0.7 per game. 

The River Hawks are averaging 63.8 points per game and are shooting .396 from the field. On three point shot attempts, they are shooting .255 and are shooting .747 from the free throw line. In combined team rebounds, Susquehanna is averaging 41.7 rebounds per game.
