Wilkes Women's Wrestling Host First-Ever Women's Open Tying for 10th Place
WILKES-BARRE -- The Wilkes University women's wrestling team hosted the first-ever Wilkes Women's Open on Sunday afternoon inside the McHale Athletic Center. The event mimicked the long-standing Wilkes Men's Open known as the "Rose Bowl of Wrestling".

The Colonels finished tied for 10th in the team standings in the open invitational event.
One wrestler earned top-four honors as
Milly Hughes (Jefferson, GA/Jefferson) took home fourth place at 138-pounds. Hughes began the day pinning Celine Asare of Kean University in 25 seconds before earning a technical fall (14-4) over Cecllia Verilli of Wyoming Seminary in the quarterfinals. She then fell to eventual champion Mia Collins of Columbia University in the semifinals by technical fall (10-0). Hughes wrestled back with an 11-0 technical fall in the consolation semifinals before ending her tournament run in the third place bout losing by fall in 4:19.
In total, 15 Colonels entered and wrestled in the event.
Wilkes is back in action Saturday when they travel to Misericordia University to compete in the Cougar Classic set for 10:00 a.m. in Dallas, Pa.
