Wilkes Women's Wrestling Makes Program Debut at East Stroudsburg Open
EAST STROUDSBURG, PA –The Wilkes University women's wrestling team made its program debut on Sunday competing in the 2025 East Stroudsburg Open hosted by East Stroudsburg University.

At 103-pounds
Gabriela Vasquez (San Antonio, TX/Conerstone Christian Schools) took home fourth place going 3-2 on the day. Vasquez cruised to the semifinals with three straight wins including a 10-0 technical fall in 2:36 and two falls in 1:53 and 1:03 respectively. In the semifinals, Vasquez fell by technical fall (10-0) to top seed Olivia Klein of East Stroudsburg before settling for fourth place with a fall (1:45) at the hands of Sacred Heart's Aallyah Payne-Parris.
At 110-pounds
Jordyn Suhina (Newville, PA/Big Spring) went 1-2 with a fall in :50 over Alexis Brown of Frostburg State.
Wilkes had three wrestlers compete at 117-pounds as
Grace Riley (Wood Ridge, NJ/Paramus Catholic) went 1-2 picking up a fall in 3:41 in the first round of the consolations and
Isabella Seip (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Wyoming Valley West) fell twice by fall in her matches.
Haylee Robinson (Baldwinsville, NY/Charles W Baker) finished 2-2 on the day with a pair of falls at 4:41 and 3:31.
Jamie Henderson (Olyphant, PA/Mid Valley) made her college debut at 124-pounds going 0-2 with a pair of falls.
Milly Hughes (Jefferson, GA/Jefferson) and
Abbigale Bowman (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville) wrestled at 138-pounds for the Colonels with Bowman dropping both of her matches by fall and technical fall and Hughes going 2-2 with a 10-0 technical fall in 1:59 and a fall in 2:35 in the consolation first round and consolation round of 8.
At 145-pounds
Alyssa McIntosh (Easton, PA/Easton Area) and
Angel Upright (Hanover, PA/Southwestern) competed for the Colonels in the bracket. McIntosh went 0-2 in her first two collegiate matches with losses by technical fall (11-0/6:00) and fall (2:24). Upright took her opening round match 8-2 decision over Charneice McClarence of Bluefield State before falling in the round of 16. Upright then fell in the consolation round of 16.
Lily Shymanski (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West) and
Kendra O'Brien (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) wrestled at 160-pounds for Wilkes with each going 0-2.
Carina Rivera (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) and
Kimberlee Hechler (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley) were the two wrestlers competing at 180-pounds. Hechler went 2-2 with a fall in :54 over Grace Capoocia of Misericordia University in the first round, then a technical fall victory 11-1 in 1:57 in the consolations. Rivera won her first two matches first by technical fall 10-0 in 4:44 and then a 5-1 decision before falling in the quarterfinals. She then finished her run with a loss in the consolation round of 8.
Wilkes is make its home debut on Saturday when the Colonels host Misericordia University in a dual starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Marts Center.
