ALLENTOWN, PA – The Wilkes University women's wrestling team competed in its second dual match of the season falling 28-18 against host Cedar Crest College Friday night.
 
Wilkes slipped to 1-1 in dual match competition on the season while Cedar Crest improved to 6-1 on the year.
 
Cedar Crest's Mary Lopez opened the match for Cedar Crest with a hard-fought 11-10 decision over Gabriela Vazquez at 103-pounds to take a 3-1 lead. At 110-pounds Jordyn Suhina (Newville, PA/Big Spring) took her match by a 7-0 decision to put the Colonels ahead 4-3 after two bouts.
 
Three straight extra-point victories at 117, 124 and 131 pushed the Falcons back in front leading 18-4 through five bouts including two falls and a technical fall.
 
At 138-pounds Milly Hughes (Jefferson, GA/Jefferson) earned a fall in 34 seconds followed by a technical fall by Alyssa McIntosh (Easton, PA/Easton Area) at 145-pounds kept the Colonels close trailing 18-13.
 
Cedar Crest claimed a fall at 160-pounds and a forfeit at 207-pounds to seal the home dual match win. Kimberlee Hechler (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley) earned the final points for Wilkes pinning Janeyda Ortiz in 2:40 at 180-pounds.
 
Wilkes returns to the mat Sunday, December 14 when the Colonels compete at the Golden Wolves Open hosted by Alvernia University. Wrestling begins at 10:00 a.m.
