Wilkes Basketball to Take on Drew Wednesday Night

WILKES-BARRE - The Wilkes men's and women's basketball teams will be taking on Drew this Wednesday with the men at home and the women on the road. The men will tip off at 5 p.m. at the Marts Center and the women tip off at 6 p.m. in New Jersey.

Men's Preview

The Colonels are sitting at 16-5 overall on the season and 10-4 in conference play, clinching their spot in the Landmark playoffs with a 87-81 win over Susquehanna on Saturday. 

Taking the top spot in the conference in scoring is Lucas Lesko (Northampton, PA/Northampton), who is averaging 22.0 points per game. Cayden Merrifield (Scranton, PA/West Scranton), who is 11th in the conference in scoring, follows behind Lesko, and is averaging 14.2 points per game. Lesko is second in the conference in rebounds with an average of 7.3 per game and Jack Argento (Hershey, PA/Hershey) sits in 10th with an average of 5.7 rebounds per game. Merrifield leads the team in assists and is second in the Landmark with an average of 4.8 assists per game. Argento follows, averaging 2.5 assists per game and is ranked 12th in the conference. Lesko is second in the conference in blocked shots with an average of 1.4 per game and Eli Becker (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) leads the team in steals and is 12th in the conference, averaging 1.5 per game.

The team averages 78.1 points per game offensively, leaving them ranked fourth in the conference in scoring. The Colonels are shooting .473 from the field, .326 on three point shot attempts and .681 from the free throw line. They are second in the conference in combined team rebounds, with an average of 38.6 per game. 

Drew is currently 18-3 overall and 14-0 in conference play, having most recently defeated Juniata 90-66 this past Saturday.

Josh Kline leads the Rangers in scoring, averaging 14.5 points per game. David Musial leads in rebounds with an average of 6.2 rebounds per game and Kline leads in assists with an average of 3.0 per game, good for sixth in the conference. Matthew Zenker leads in blocked shots, with an average of 0.6 per game and Kline leads in steals, averaging 2.3 steals per game. 

Offensively, the Rangers are averaging 90.7 points per game and are shooting .473 from the field. On three point shot attempts, they are shooting .350 and from the free throw line they are shooting .686. In combined team rebounds, they are averaging 38.2 rebounds per game. 

 

Women's Preview

The Colonels are 0-21 overall on the season and 0-14 in conference play, most recently falling to Susquehanna this past Saturday. 

In scoring, Yamirelis Matos (Springfield, MA/Chicopee) leads the team and is ranked fifth in the conference with an average of 15.5 points per game. Nadia Evanosky (Dallas, PA/Dallas) follows with an average of 7.5 points per game. Evanosky and Matos also lead in rebounds, with Evanosky at a 7.6 rebound average per game and Matos at 6.6, leaving them at fifth and ninth in the conference. Evanosky is 14th in the conference in blocked shots, averaging 0.7 per game, and Maliyah Warren (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) follows, with an average of 0.6 blocks per game. Evanosky is also third in the conference in steals with an average of 3.1 per game.

The Colonels are currently averaging 47.4 points per game, and are shooting .283 from the field. On three point shot attempts, they are shooting .199 and from the free throw line they are shooting .646. In combined team rebounds, Wilkes is averaging 35.5 rebounds per game.

The Rangers are currently 13-8 overall and 8-6, most recently defeating Juniata 62-58 on Saturday. 

Gianna Pica leads the team in scoring and is third in the conference, averaging 15.6 points per game. Pica also leads in rebounds with an average of 6.1 per game. Amy Rachilla leads in assists, averaging 3.5 per game and good for third in the conference. Brenna Hezel is second in the conference in blocked shots, averaging 1.6 per game and Rachilla leads in steals with an average of 1.5 per game.     

The Rangers are averaging 62.1 points per game and are shooting .360 from the field. On three point shot attempts, they are shooting .302 and are shooting .694 from the free throw line. In combined team rebounds, Drew is averaging 39.0 rebounds per game.
