Wilkes Basketball To Face Susquehanna on the Road

WILKES-BARRE - The Wilkes University men's and women's basketball teams are gearing up to take on the Susquehanna River Hawks in Selinsgrove on Saturday. The women will play at 2 p.m. followed by the men at 4 p.m.

Men's Preview

The Colonels advanced to 15-5 on the season and 9-4 in conference play following their 71-58 victory over Scranton on Wednesday night.

Sitting at second in the conference in scoring is Lucas Lesko (Northampton, PA/Northampton), who is averaging 21.8 points per game. Cayden Merrifield (Scranton, PA/West Scranton), who is 11th in the conference in scoring, follows behind Lesko, and is averaging 14.0 points per game. Lesko is second in the conference in rebounds with an average of 7.4 per game and Jack Argento (Hershey, PA/Hershey) sits in 10th with an average of 5.8 rebounds per game. Merrifield leads the team in assists and is second in the Landmark with an average of 4.5 assists per game. Argento follows, averaging 2.5 assists per game and is ranked 12th in the conference. Lesko is second in the conference in blocked shots with an average of 1.4 per game and Eli Becker (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) leads the team in steals and is ninth in the conference, averaging 1.6 per game.

The team averages 77.7 points per game offensively, leaving them ranked fourth in the conference in scoring. The Colonels are shooting .467 from the field, .316 on three point shot attempts and .681 from the free throw line. They are second in the conference in combined team rebounds, with an average of 38.7 per game. 

The River Hawks are currently sitting 12-8 overall and are 9-4 in conference play, most recently coming off a 90-82 win over Goucher on Wednesday night. 

Billy Anderson leads the River Hawks in scoring, averaging 13.3 points per game. Brandon Lavitt leads in rebounds with an average of 6.2 rebounds per game. Jackson Van Wagener leads in assists with an average of 3.1 per game and Audric Washington leads the team and is fourth in the conference in blocked shots, averaging 1.1 per game. Mike Pirone leads the team in steals with an average of 1.5 per game.

Women's Preview

The Colonels are currently 0-20 overall and 0-13 in conference play, most recently falling to No. 3 ranked Scranton on Wednesday night. 

In scoring, Yamirelis Matos (Springfield, MA/Chicopee) leads the team and is ranked fifth in the conference with an average of 14.7 points per game. Nadia Evanosky (Dallas, PA/Dallas) follows with an average of 6.9 points per game. Evanosky and Matos also lead in rebounds, with Evanosky at a 7.5 rebound average per game and Matos at 6.9, leaving them at fifth and seventh in the conference. Evanosky is 13th in the conference in blocked shots, averaging 0.7 per game, and Maliyah Warren (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) follows, also with an average of 0.7 blocks per game. Evanosky is also second in the conference in steals with an average of 3.2 per game.

The Colonels are currently averaging 46.4 points per game, and are shooting .280 from the field. On three point shot attempts, they are shooting .196 and from the free throw line they are shooting .633. In combined team rebounds, Wilkes is averaging 35.6 rebounds per game.

Susquehanna is currently 11-9 overall and 8-5 in conference play, having most recently defeated Goucher 94-67.
