Wilkes Softball's Sherrick Nominated for 2025 NCAA Woman of the Year

WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes softball infielder Evan Sherrick (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) has been named as Wilkes University's nominee for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Woman of the Year Award, as announced by the Landmark Conference on Wednesday.

"I'm honored to announce Evan as Wilkes University's nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year," said Wilkes softball head coach Jackie Klahold '15 MS. "In addition to her tremendous leadership on the field, Evan has been a leader in the classroom and in the community throughout her career."

Eligible female student-athletes are nominated by their member school. Each conference office then reviews the nominations from its core member schools (and sponsored sports) and submits its conference nominee(s) to the NCAA. In the Fall, the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee will identify the top 30, 10 from each division, and then select three finalists from each division. The Committee on Women's Athletics then selects the winner from the nine finalists, which will be announced at the NCAA 2026 Convention in January.

During her time at Wilkes, Sherrick served as president of Wilkes' Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), leading numerous campus and community engagement initiatives. She coordinated events such as the SAAC Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween Trunk or Treat, Parents Night Out, and partnered with the CEO Weinberg Food Bank for holiday meal distribution and senior food packaging efforts. She also helped lead programming for National Girls and Women in Sports Day and youth sports clinics.

Sherrick was a four-time NFCA Scholar-Athlete, two-time CSC Academic All-District honoree, and earned a spot on the Landmark Academic Honor Roll in 2024 and 2025. In 2024, she earned a spot on the Landmark All-Sportsmanship Team and was inducted into the prestigious Colonel Elite Society as well as Chi Alpha Sigma.

Sherrick graduated this past spring with a degree in elementary/early childhood education.
