Wilkes Tennis Teams Compete at Dutchmen Invitational
 
ANNVILLE, PA – The Wilkes University men's and women's tennis teams competed at the Dutchmen Invitational hosted by Lebanon Valley College on Saturday afternoon at the Shankroff Tennis Center. Wilkes was one of four teams participating at the event including host LVC, Catholic University and York College of Pennsylvania.
 
The day consisted of a co-ed exhibition tournament featuring six groups of matches. Catholic won Group A with 125 total games on the day, while Wilkes was third with 73. The Cardinals also won Group B with 125 total games, while Wilkes was fourth with 54 games.
 
The Wilkes A team consisted of Sebastian Sylvester (Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago/The College of Lady Fatima), Cole Riley (Louisville, KY/Xavier), Otarhe Okoh (Shakopee, MN/Shakopee), Xavier Bleiler (Mountain Top, PA/MMI Prep), Ana Savkovic (Belgrade, Serbia/The Hoosac School), Julia Spaeth (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg Area), Isabel Schreffler (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West), Isabella Bopp (Verona, NJ/Verona), Landon Gleichauf (Naples, NY/Naples), Ava Vacula (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area Secondary Center) and Kensington Edmond (Mount Joy, PA/Donegal). The Colonels B squad was made up of Landon Gleichauf (Naples, NY/Naples), Vacula, Edmond, Luke Meissner (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty), Luis Delgado, Cole Larcinese (), Dom Mazza (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area), Rebecca Gula (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area), Claire Kornak, Eva Winters (York, PA/Red Land) and Ayla Krieger.
 
The Colonels stared the day with the A team falling 30-27 against York. Spaeth and Savkovic teamed for a doubles win (5-3). The Wilkes B team fell 41-27 against York with two doubles winners in Meissner and Gleichauf winning 8-5 and Bopp and Hardine 7-4.
 
Both teams then fell to Catholic by the scores of 41-27 (B Team) and 39-20 (A Team. In mixed doubles, Savhovic and Sylvester won 8-3 against the Cardinals.
 
The Colonels closed the night against host LVC falling 38-26 (A Team) and 48-16 (B Team). Sylvester was an 8-7 winner in singles play while Savhovic won 8-0 on the A Team.
 
The Wilkes women's tennis team is back in action September 24 with a road dual match at Division II East Stroudsburg starting at 3:30 p.m. The Colonel men remain idle until ITA Southeast Regional Championships on October 3-4 at Mary Washington University.
