DeMarco and Cruz Receive Landmark Player of the Week Accolades

TOWSON, Md. - Wilkes softball senior Lauren DeMarco (Merrick, NY/Sanford H. Calhoun) and Wilkes baseball sophomore Andres Cruz (Wayne, PA/Radnor) were both recognized by the Landmark Conference for their stellar play this past week, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon.

DeMarco was named Landmark Pitcher of the Week for the first time this season, while Cruz was named Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.

DeMarco kept Wilkes in the playoff race this past week with two great outings against Lycoming and Juniata. She pitched a complete game gem against the Warriors by allowing just six hits, two runs, and striking out four batters in a 4-2 win. She followed it up with a complete game, two-hit shutout against the Eagles where she struck out another five batters.

Her final numbers for the week were 14 innings pitched, eight hits allowed, two runs surrendered, and nine strikeouts.

Meanwhile for baseball, Cruz had a stellar week at the plate and led the Colonels to a perfect 5-0 record. He batted .500 by going 11-22 with six singles, two doubles, and three home runs while racking up 15 RBIs.

He had a two-home run game against Widener on Monday and a perfect 4-4 day in game two against Juniata on Saturday, finishing a triple short of the cycle in both.

Both baseball and softball return to the field tomorrow, April 21, for home non-conference games against Immaculata and Misericordia. Softball's doubleheader against the Mighty Macs is scheduled for 4 p.m. and baseball's Morgan's Message Game against the Cougars will start at the same time.
