READING – The Wilkes field hockey team fell behind 3-0 and never recovered as Alvernia took a 4-2 win, handing the Lady Colonels their second loss of the season.
Sarah George scored her third goal of the season at the 11-minute mark with an assist from Katy Eby to give the Crusaders the early 1-0 lead. Just under 12 minutes later, Eby made it 2-0 when she dribbled up the left side before lifting the ball over Wilkes goal keeper

Janelle Lynch made it 3-0 with less than four minutes to go in the half to give Alvernia a commanding lead it would not lose the rest of the way. For the game, the Crusaders had 18 total shots, nine of which came off the stick of Lynch.
Devon McKay (Secane, Pa./Christian Academy) finally put the Lady Colonels on the board with an unassisted goal at the 38-minute mark before Sarah George gave Alvernia a 4-1 lead with her fourth goal of the season.
Gina Elmy (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R.) kept the game close, scoring her second goal of the season off an assist from
Alyssa Koncelik (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) with less than two minutes to play.
Alvernia's four goals marks the most points the Lady Colonels have given up all season. Wilkes will play its final home game of the season tomorrow when it hosts King's at 1 p.m. in Kingston. If the Lady Colonels defeat King's they will be the No. 1 seed in the Freedom Conference Championship.
