Allison Horn (New Tripoli, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) scored a career-high 20 points, hitting 10-of-10 free throws as well as dishing out six assists without a turnover to lead Wilkes to a 67-52 win over FDU-Florham.
As a team, the Lady Colonels hit 82.1 percent from the line, making 23-of-28 from the charity stripe. Three different players scored in double-figures with
Sam Lynam (Spinnerstown/Quakertown) putting in 19, while
Chelsey Gosse (Allentown, Pa./Dieruff) added 13 with a team-high seven rebounds.
The Lady Colonels took advantage of 24 turnovers by the Devils, picking up 13 steals and scoring 24 points off the Devils' miscues.
Wilkes led from start to finish, building as much as a 16-point advantage with just over five minutes to play in the first until the Devils pulled within five with 2:20 to go in the game after Danielle Michlovsky made a layup.
The Lady Colonels opened the contest with a 14-4 run with 13:43 fueled by three-pointers from Lynam and Horn. The duo would combine for five of the team's six three-point baskets on the day. Wilkes actually shot better from behind the arc (37.5) percent than its total of 35.2 percent from the field.
Chelsey Gosse (Allentown, Pa./Dieruff) made a layup with 14:50 to go to give the Lady Colonels a 12-2 lead, but it would be the last field goal Wilkes would make until Horn broke the drought with a 15-foot jumper with 10:05 to play in the first.
FDU would go on an 8-2 run during the cold spell and pulled within six (16-10), but would come no closer the rest of the half. The Devils would be stuck on the 10-point mark over the next five minutes and after a 10-0 Lady Colonel run, Wilkes led 26-10, its largest of the game with 5:39 to go before the break.
Lynam hit another three-pointer with 3:35 to go followed by a layup with just over two minutes to play to score the final five points for Wilkes as it went to the locker room with a 31-19 halftime lead.
FDU-Florham opened the second half with an 8-2 run to pull within six (33-27) on Michlovsky's layup with 15:49, but the Lady Colonels answered with a 7-2 run of their own to keep their double-digit lead.
Both teams would exchange buckets until FDU used a 7-2 with 6:21 to go to pull within five (51-46) after Lynn Lopez nailed the only three-pointer she attempted. Courtney Young, who scored a team-high 16, put in five of the team's seven points during the run.
The Devils would pull within five once again with 2:20 to go after a Michlovsky layup, but they would not score again the rest of the way as the Lady Colonels finished the game with a 10-0 run.
The win moves Wilkes to 7-5 overall and 2-3 in Freedom Conference play. The Lady Colonels will hit the road Monday to take on Delaware Valley in Doylestown at 6 p.m.
