Box Score

Misericordia shot 63 percent in the second half, hitting 17-of-27 shots, lifting the Cougars to a 61-57 win over Wilkes University, snapping the Lady Colonels' two-game win streak.

It was a tale of two halves as both teams struggled offensively in the first period playing to a 17-17 halftime score. The second half was a stark contrast as the two squads combined for 84 points, hitting a total of 31 field goals.

After making just seven field goals the entire first half, Misericordia opened the second by draining six of its first seven baskets and eventually led 30-24 with 15:51 to go. Both teams would exchange buckets until the Lady Colonels tied the game at 44 with 8:09 to play for the first time in the half on a three-pointer by Allison Horn (New Tripoli, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh). She would finish with 16 points, hitting three three-pointers, while making 5-of-5 free throws.

Wilkes couldn't buy a bucket over the next 5:40 of the game, going scoreless during that span. Misericordia took advantage, going on a 10-0 run to lead 54-44 with 2:42 to go. The deficit would prove to be costly as the Lady Colonels never took the lead again. They did however, make a late surge, pulling within two with six seconds to play thanks to four-straight free throws.

Unlike the second half, Wilkes led for nearly the entire first half, leading by as many as five with 13:36 before the break after Chelsey Gosse (Allentown, Pa./Dieruff) converted a layup giving the Lady Colonels an 8-3 lead.

Lindsey Sykes gave the Cougars their first lead of the half when she made a layup after picking up a steal, giving Misericordia an 11-10 advantage with 8:52 to go before the break. The Cougars shot just 24.1 percent in the first half, but Wilkes followed suit, hitting just 6-of-24 for 25 percent.

Two players scored in double-figures with Sam Lynam (Spinnerstown/Quakertown) leading the way with 18 points, while Allison Horn (New Tripoli, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) added 16. Gosse pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds and had three of the team's seven blocks.

Wilkes will hit the road Saturday when it heads to Reading to take on Alvernia at 1 p.m.
