CLARKS SUMMIT – The Wilkes University women's basketball team snapped a five-game losing skid with a 97-76 win over Baptist Bible.
Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer) scored a season-high 22 points, while three other players finished in double-figures.
The Lady Colonels torched the nets, hitting 37-of-66 shots for 56.1 percent, marking their best shooting percentage in nearly three years. The 97-point outburst is also the team's highest total in recent history.
Wilkes started the game on a 12-0 run and never looked back as it eventually extended its lead to 22-4 with 14:02 to go in the first half. The Lady Colonels would lead by as many as 23 several times in the first half.
The Lady Colonels took a 51-33 lead into the break, dominating the inside, out-scoring Baptist Bible 30-10 in the paint.
The second half was much like the first as the Lady Colonels kept a 20-point cushion the rest of the way. Sam Lynam, who finished with 16 points, gave Wilkes a 72-47 advantage, its largest of the game, after making a layup with 11:43 to go.
Lyndsay Ellis (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) and
Lindsey Gosse (Allentown, Pa./Allen) both put in 14 points for Wilkes, while Ellis and
Amanda Pawlowski (Nanticoke, PA/Holy Redeemer) each had five assists. Gosse pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds in the win.
Wilkes moved to 2-6 on the year and will take on Susquehanna at home on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Marts Center.
