Box Score

Alvernia University jumped out to an 18-2 run and rode the back of Kelli McIntyre, who scored a game-high 26 points, to take a 71-54 win over Wilkes University in Freedom Conference play.

Fifteen Crusaders saw action in the game, but the duo of McIntyre and Lillian Snyder combined for 42 of the team's points, hitting a total of 18-of-26 from the field. Turnovers were the Achilles heel once again for Wilkes as Alvernia scored 29 points off the Lady Colonels' miscues.

Senior Khadija Bates (Tobyhanna, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) had a solid performance, scoring eight points on 4-of-5 shooting while pulling down three rebounds and blocking two shots. Brittany Ely (Montrose, Pa./Montrose) put in a team-high nine points while pulling down five boards.

Bates scored the first points of the game for Wilkes 22 seconds in, but the Lady Colonels would not score again until Samantha Simcox (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) hit a pair of free throws at the 11:35 mark. By the time the Crusaders rattled off 18-straight points, seven of which came from McIntyre.

Both teams would exchange buckets the rest of the way before the Crusaders would take a 33-20 lead at the half.

The second half saw both teams go back and fourth with the Crusaders holding a double-digit lead all but two times the rest of the way. Wilkes' Lindsey Gosse (Allentown, Pa./Allen) made a layup with 9:59 to go to pull the Lady Colonels within nine (49-40), but they would no closer the rest of the way.

Alvernia would lead by as many as 21 with 3:08 to go, but the Colonels scored four-straight points to close out the game.

The loss dropped Wilkes to 10-13 overall and 5-10 in Freedom Conference play. The Lady Colonels will return to action Tuesday when they head to Dallas to face Misericordia at 6 p.m.
