CENTER VALLEY – No. 14 DeSales University hit 10 three-pointers and shot 43.1 percent from the field en route to a 86-39 win over Wilkes University. The contest marks the second-straight time the Bulldogs held Wilkes to a season-low in points.
The Lady Colonels kept it close midway through the first half matching the Bulldogs basket for basket until league-leading DeSales used a 35-9 run over the last 10:24 of the first frame. During the scoring outburst, the Bulldogs hit five of their eight three pointers of the half, to eventually lead 48-21 at the break.
DeSales' Kaila Wiand hit a three-pointer 12 seconds into the game, but the Bulldogs would not score for another 5:05 when LeighAnn Burke drained a three with 15:43 to go before the break. The Lady Colonels were unable to take advantage, only scoring four points of their own during that time.
Wilkes went on a scoring drought of its own, going without a point over the last 2:27 of the first half. During that span, the Bulldogs used a 12-0 run to extend their lead.
Wilkes' shooting woes continued in the second half, hitting 23.1 percent from the field. The Bulldogs opened the second half the same way they ended the first with an 11-0 run to lead 59-21 with 17:30 to go.
Chelsey Gosse (Allentown, Pa./Dieruff) finally gave the Lady Colonels their first points of the second half with a layup at the 17:15 mark. They would have two more scoring droughts of four minutes or more the rest of the way.
DeSales took advantage of the Lady Colonel mistakes, scoring 32 points off turnovers and had 15 second chance points.
Lindsey Gosse (Allentown, Pa./Allen) scored a season-high eight points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds to lead the Lady Colonels.
Samantha Simcox (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) also had eight points, all of which came in the first half.
Wilkes will remain on the road this weekend when it heads to Madison, N.J. to take on FDU-Florham on Saturday at 1 p.m.
