ST. DAVIDS – The Wilkes University women's lacrosse was unable to get back to their winning form on Saturday, dropping a 15-5 decision to Eastern University in MAC action.
The Lady Colonels have now lost their third-straight, which puts them at 8-6 overall on the year and 4-5 in conference play, while the Eagles improve to 8-6 overall and 6-3 in league play.
Eastern and Wilkes would exchange goals over the first 13 minutes of the game, as both found the back of the net twice. However, the Eagles closed the half on a 4-1 run to give them a 6-3 lead heading into the half.
Eastern would step up their defense in the second frame, allowing just two Lady Colonels' goals, both by
Melissa Polchinski (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown), while scoring nine more of their own to post the final margin.
Polchinski scored four of Wilkes' five goals with
Kat Edwards (Windsor, Conn./Windsor) scoring the other.
Brittney Hodnik (Binghamton, N.Y./Binghamton) and Edwards earned the only two assists for the Lady Colonels on the day, while
Cassie Cronin (Manchester, NH/Manchester Memorial) stopped 12 shots in the losing effort.
Grace Griffith and Jessie Basch each tallied four scores for Eastern, while Katie Choquette scored three goals, Kristin Brownett had two, and Jess Fields and Erin Fries each tallied one goal. Choquette also added two assists, while Fields and Erin Reimel had one apiece. Kim Campbell stopped six Lady Colonel shots in goal for the Eagles.
Wilkes will try to end their skid when they travel to play Lancaster Bible on Monday at 4 p.m.
