LANCASTER – Wilkes University scored nine runs in the final two innings to come back from a four-run deficit to take a 16-10 win over Lancaster Bible. Geoff Miller (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) and Randy Dengler (Ashland, Pa./Tri-Valley ) were a two-person wrecking crew as they accounted for seven hits and 10 RBI in the win.

Miller hit a pair of home runs, including a grand slam in the eighth inning, and drove in seven runs, while Dengler hit his team-leading seventh homer of the year.

Eighteen different players saw action as the Colonels improved to 23-6 on the year. Lancaster Bible gave Wilkes all it could handle, jumping out to an 8-1 lead after the first three innings, including putting up five runs in the second inning.

Lancaster Bible opened with a run in the first inning before taking a 6-0 advantage after the first two frames. The Chargers would finish with 12 hits, including at three-run homer by leadoff hitter Zachary Kraehmer in the second.

The Colonels cut the lead in half with three runs in the top of the fifth after Dengler, Miller and Tom Buckler (Plains, Pa./Coughlin) each drove in runs. Matt Ruch (Dallas, Pa./Holy Redeemer ) led off the inning with a single to extend his hitting streak to 18 games, before Joel Watson (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) reached on an infield error. Dengler's single plated Ruch before Watson came around to score on a sacrifice fly to left field by Miller. Buckler would eventually ground out to second base, but would be enough to score Dengler from third.

Wilkes would make it 8-7 in favor of the Chargers with three more runs after Dengler and Miller hit back-to-back homers. Dengler's blast drove in Ruch, who led off the inning with a double, while Miller's was a solo shot.

Lancaster Bible kept the Colonels at bay with two more runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 10-7 lead. It would be the last runs the Chargers would score.

The Colonels would take the lead for good with five runs in the eighth, four of which came off the bat of miller, who finished with three hits and three runs scored. Watson would drive in the other run on a fielder's choice, plating Eric Wetzel (New Berlin, N.J./Mifflinburg), who led off the inning with a walk.

Wilkes would add four more insurance runs in its final at-bat off four hits while taking advantage of an error and a hit by pitch.

The Colonels will stay in action tomorrow when they host FDU-Florham in a Freedom Conference double header which makes the fourth game in three days for Wilkes.
