SCRANTON – The Wilkes University baseball team snapped a three-game losing skid with a 14-6 win over Marywood, marking the second time the Colonels have defeated the Pacers this season.

The Colonels banged out 14 hits including six for extra bases while Al Clocker (Swoyersville/Wyoming Valley West) improved to 5-0 on the mound. Clocker tossed 5.2 innings where he gave up five runs, three of which were earned, off 10 hits while striking out four.

Wilkes scored in all but two innings as well as plating 10 runs in the final four innings of the game. Catcher Randy Dengler (Ashland, Pa./Tri-Valley ), who missed the double header against Delaware Valley, went 4-for-6 with three RBI and two runs scored to lead the Colonels. He, along with four other players, hit doubles while John Florance (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Forks) had a pair of two-baggers.

Geoff Miller (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) opened the scoring for Wilkes in the first inning when he knocked in Mike McAndrew (Avoca, Pa./Pittston Area) on a single to right field for his only hit of the day. Marywood tied the game in the second when the Pacers loaded the bases before Ed Zakrzewski was hit by a pitch to score Patrick Diskin. The threat would end there as the Pacers left the bases loaded.

Wilkes took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth inning before scoring 11 more from the fifth inning on.

Seven different players recorded a hit for Wilkes while four had two-or-more on the day. The win improves the Colonels to 27-9 on the year and will close out the regular season tomorrow afternoon when they host Scranton at 3:30 p.m. in Artillery Park. The game against the Royals will be the final tune up before they head to Boyertown for the Freedom Conference Tournament.
