The Wilkes University women's basketball team traveled to King's College on Saturday in search of consecutive Freedom Conference victories, ultimately falling by a score of 82-62 to its cross-town rival.

The Lady Colonels came into the game with a 3-11 record, including 1-3 in conference play. They were coming off a victory over Eastern on Wednesday, 58-50. The Monarchs were 7-8 coming into the contest, and boasted a 2-2 Freedom Conference mark.

The game started off which a quick score by freshman Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer) , and Wilkes coming out in a two-three defensive zone, which combined with its full-court press, created multiple turnovers by King's. At the 15:00 mark, Kazmerski broke a four to four tie with a long three-pointer, giving the Lady Colonels a 7-4 advantage early in the contest.

Wilkes retained that lead till the 8:33 mark, when two free throws followed up by two quick baskets gave the Monarchs a 20-15 lead. Over the next six minutes, King's would mount an 18-5 run, and with less than three minutes left in the period the Monarchs had established a 38-20 lead. The Lady Colonels hit a few baskets late in the half, including an Erin Schneider (Colchester, CT/Holy Name) three-pointer, but had fallen into a 42-26 deficit at the break.

Wilkes was led by Kazmerski who had seven points and six rebounds in the half. Lindsey Gosse (Allentown, Pa./Allen) chipped in four points and five boards, but the Lady Colonels turned the ball over 15 times and shot 33 percent from the field, preventing them from establishing consistent offensive play.

The second half started off which two quick buckets by Gosse, but King's would respond quickly, led by two three-pointers by Paige Carlin. Wilkes was unable to put together a string of field goals and stop the Monarchs at the same time, and with 13:00 left to play the Lady Colonels were down by 20.

The Lady Colonels pulled it to within 11 points with nine minutes left behind solid play by Gosse, but couldn't work the deficit to single digits. King's would sink free throws down the stretch and eventually win by a score of 82-62.

The Lady Colonels were led by Gosse with 18 points and 10 rebounds on seven of nine from the field. Kazmerski put in 11 points and nine boards, while Lyndsay Ellis (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) had eight points, two assists and three steals.

With the loss, Wilkes falls to 3-12 (1-4) on the season, and will try to bounce back when head to Center Valley to take on DeSales University. That game will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 20.
