The Wilkes University women's basketball team traveled to DeSales on Wednesday to take on the Bulldogs, ultimately falling by a final score of 100-48. The Lady Colonels turned the ball over 39 times, while DeSales scored 50 points in the paint in the contest.
In the first period Wilkes jumped out to an early 11-5 lead behind scored by
Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer),
Lindsey Gosse (Allentown, Pa./Allen) and
Lyndsay Ellis (Dallas, Pa./Dallas), but that lead quickly diminished, and 6:45 left to go the Bulldogs had built a 29-16 lead. Wilkes would shoot 33 percent in the period, while DeSales hit on 35 percent of its shot, but took twice as many as the Lady Colonels. Going in to the break the Bulldogs were up 44-21.
In the second half DeSales only improve upon it's lead, scoring 56 points and hitting on 50 percents of its shots, including five three-pointers. The Lady Colonels made four threes in the half, but only ten field goals total. The Bulldogs cruised for most of the period en route to a 100-48 victory.
Wilkes was led by Ellis with 15 points, including 3-of-5 from three, while Kazmerski chipped in 10 points, six rebounds and three assists in the loss. Gosse played only 18 minutes but was able to pull down a season-high 14 rebounds.
The Bulldogs had five players in double figures scoring, and two players in double figures rebounding.
With the loss Wilkes falls to 3-13, 1-5 on the season, and will have a chance to turn things around when it hosts Delaware Valley. That game will begin at 1:00 p.m.
