Box Score

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's basketball team came out hot on Tuesday night, starting off their game against Marywood with a 15-0 run. Unfortunately, Wilkes couldn't sustain their momentum throughout the contest, ultimately falling to the Pacers 63-48.

In the first eight minutes of the game it was all Wilkes, as consecutive baskets by Erin Schneider (Colchester, CT, Holy Name) and Whitney Connolly (Liberty, Liberty) helped the Lady Colonels explode to a 15-0 lead and caused two Pacer timeouts. With the score 17-2 Wilkes hit a roadblock, not scoring for another five minutes. Meanwhile, the Pacers crawled back into the game and Wilkes found itself in early foul trouble.

As the half came to a conclusion, Marywood kept narrowing the deficit before tying the contest on a three-pointer with five second left in the period. Wilkes was led by Schneider in the half with seven points on three-of-three from the field and one three-pointer. Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, Holy Redeemer) and Connolly each had six points, while Brittany Ely (Montrose, Montrose) pulled down five rebounds.

In the second half the Pacers came out of the gate hot, and five minutes into the period had built up a nine point lead. The Lady Colonels didn't surrender, as free throws by Connolly and layups by Schneider and Angela Palmerio (Telford, Lansdale Catholic) pulled Wilkes back to within four. That's as close as they would get for the rest of the contest, as multiple layups by the Pacer center Alysa Mayo pushed the Marywood lead nearly out of sight.

Sam Lynam (Spinnerstown, Quakertown) hit a few late three-pointers for Wilkes, but it didn't prove to be enough as Marywood cruised to a 63-48 victory.

Lynam finished with 13 points in 19 minutes on the night to lead the Lady Colonels, while Schneider chipped in nine. Palmerio had a solid all-around game, recording eight points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Wilkes will try and turn things around when they head to Misericordia to take on their Freedom Conference foe. That game is on Dec. 1 in Dallas Pa. and will begin at 6:00 p.m.
