DALLAS – Sam Lynam (Spinnerstown, Quakertown) scored a team-high 19 points for the Lady Colonels but Misericordia University's Christine Marks scored 30 points and grabbed 25 rebounds as Wilkes University fell to the Cougars 78-46 in the Freedom Conference women's basketball opener for both schools on Wednesday night.

Misericordia (3-3, 1-0) started strong, scoring the game's first 18 points in the opening 5:51. The Lady Colonels got on the board with a basket from Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, Holy Redeemer) followed by a three-pointer from Amanda Pawlowski (Nanticoke, Holy Redeemer) to make the score 18-5 with 12:20 left in the first half.

After the Cougars stretched their lead to 25-7, Wilkes rebounded with a score from Sam Lynam (Spinnerstown/Quakertown) and a three from Kazmerski to cut the deficit back to 13 points at 25-12. Misericordia, however, responded with an 18-8 run before closing out the half with a 43-22 lead.

The Cougars started the second half strong, going on an 11-3 run in the first 6:58 and controlled the rest of the game en route to the victory.

In addition to Marks output, Jesse Robinson added 16 points and Tyrann McDaniel netted 15 points for the Cougars.

Lynam led the Lady Colonels in scoring for the third time in her three games, adding three rebounds and two assists. Kazmerski added 10 points while Helen Lawry (Glenville, NY, Burnt Hills - Ballston Lake) added a season-high eight points for Wilkes.

The Lady Colonels (1-4, 0-1) hit the court again this Saturday when they travel to New Jersey to face Freedom Conference opponent FDU-Florham. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
