Box Score

The Wilkes University women's basketball team traveled to Dallas, Pa. on Wednesday evening to face Misericordia University in Freedom Conference action. The Lady Colonels were looking to break a five game skid, but ran into a hot team in the Cougars, who won 67-46.

The game began with Misericordia jumping out to a 10-5 lead five minutes into the contest, a lead they would retain the rest of the game. The Lady Colonels never let the deficit get too far out of reach, and worked a 16 point Cougar lead down to 11 right before the break on baskets by Erin Schneider (Colchester, CT/Holy Name) and Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer).

At the half Misericordia had built up a 30-19 lead, and was shooting over 52 percent. The Lady Colonels had hit on only 26 percent of their shots, but had seven more attempts than the Cougars.

The second half began with Misericordia scorching the nets early, enhancing its lead from 11 to 21 seven minutes into the period. Wilkes struggled to find an answer, as multiple turnovers and a low shooting percentage didn't allow it to climb back into the contest.

The Lady Colonels never brought the deficit to within single digits in the second half, struggling from both the field as well as the three-point line. Meanwhile, the Cougars once again connected on over 50 percent of their shots, cruising to a 67-46 victory.

Wilkes was led by Kazmerski with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Morgan Thomas (Nanticoke, Pa./Nanticoke) scored a season-high nine points on 4-of-7 shooting.

Misericordia was led by Christine Marks with 21 points and 14 rebounds.

With the defeat the Lady Colonels drop to 3-17 (1-8) on the season. They will have a chance to pick up their fourth victory on Saturday, Feb. 6 when they host Manhattanville. That game will begin at 1:00 p.m.
