The Wilkes University women's lacrosse team hosted Eastern on Thursday, ultimately falling to the Eagles by a score of 19-3.
The Lady Colonels came into the game with a 0-3 (0-3) record, while Eastern was 2-6 (2-2) on the season.
The Eagles were the first to score in the contest, finding the back of the keep in the second minute and taking an early lead. They scored three more goals in the next few minutes, pushing their lead to four and forcing a Colonel timeout.
Wilkes threatened in the eleventh minute with multiple shots, but couldn't pierce the Eagle's defense. Eastern then added two more goals before the 15 minute mark, making the score 6-0.
Wilkes scored in the 16th minute, as
Erica Sundberg (Mullica Hill, N.J./Kingsway HS) scored unassisted on a shot right in front of the Eastern goal. The Eagles scored five unanswered goals after the Lady Colonels scored, and with 1:53 left in the half
Amanda Tilley (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) found
Amelia Farnham (Guilford, CN/Guilford HS) for Wilkes' second goal of the contest. At the break Eastern held an 11-2 advantage.
Eastern scored two quick goals in the second half, making the score 13-2 with over 20 minutes to play. The Eagles then kept the pressure on, scoring five more goals before calling a timeout with 6:15 left to play.
Farnham scored again with a little over three minutes left, but it was too little too late as the Eagles cruised to a 19-3 victory.
Wilkes will look to bounce back when it hosts Moravian on Thursday, April 8. That game will begin at 4:00 p.m.
