Box Score

ST. DAVID'S – Wilkes University fell to Eastern University 70-34 in Freedom Conference women's basketball action on Wednesday night in St. David's.

The Lady Colonels fell behind quickly, as a layup by reigning conference player of the week Shante Jones at the 15:47 mark gave Eastern a 12-2 lead. Back-to-back baskets by Sam Lynam (Spinnerstown/Quakertown) and Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer) cut the Eagles lead to six less than a minute later, but Eastern stopped the Lady Colonels run, scoring eight straight points to take a 20-6 lead with 11:57 left.

Neither team shot well in the first half, as Wilkes connected on 5-of-31 shots and Eastern on 13-41, but the Eagles dominated the boards, totaling 37 in the first 20 minutes alone, including 15 on the offensive end.

The Eagles came out of the locker room doing much of the same, going on a 16-2 run to open up the second half. Eastern dominated the rest of the half, going on to notch its ninth win of the season.

Jones and Bekah Roland each finished with double-doubles for the Eagles, as Jones led all scorers with 20 points, adding 10 rebounds and six assists. Roland chipped in with 16 points and 14 boards.

Kazmerski nearly notched a double-double of her own, getting 12 points and nine rebounds. She was the most efficient Wilkes player, going 5-of-10 from the field in 31 minutes.

The Lady Colonels (3-10, 0-4) will celebrate 50 years of women's basketball as they return home on Saturday to host cross-town rival King's College on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. from the Marts Center, with a celebration scheduled for the Hall of Fame Room following the game.
