Box Score

WILKES-BARRE – Whitney Connolly (Liberty, PA/Liberty) had 18 points and 11 rebounds for Wilkes on Wednesday night, but it wasn't enough as visiting DeSales downed the Lady Colonels 78-44. The loss marks the seventh defeat in a row for the Lady Colonels.

The game started off with each team unable to pull away, as baskets by Sam Lynam (Spinnerstown/Quakertown), Connolly, and Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer) helped keep Wilkes close in the contest. After a deep three-pointer by Kazmerski, Wilkes found itself down only one point seven minutes into the game.

Over the next 13 minutes the Bulldogs would mount a 23-13 run as the Lady Colonels struggled with a full court press and committed many turnovers. The lone bright spot for Wilkes was Connolly's ability to get to the free throw line and connect, as the junior made 10-of-10 attempts from the charity stripe. She also made a late layup to make the score 38-27 at the break.

Connolly had 12 points in the half, 10 of which came from the free throw line. Kazmerski had seven points and seven rebounds, while Lynam contributed six points. Wilkes had 17 turnovers in the half which led to 17 points for DeSales.

The turmoil snowballed for Wilkes in the second period, as DeSales went on a 31-7 run in the first 10 minutes of the half. Wilkes again struggled to get shots off due to multiple turnovers due to the Bulldog full court pressure.

The Lady Colonels were able to get to the rim late in the game, but DeSales had already built and insurmountable lead, cruising to a 78-44 victory.

Connolly led all scorers in the game with 18 points and also 11 rebounds. Lynam finished with 11 points while Kazmerski had eight points and 13 rebounds in the game. Wilkes committed 37 turnovers on the night which led to 37 points for the Bulldogs. With the loss the Lady Colonels fall to 3-12, 0-6 on the season.

The Lady Colonels will try to turn things around when they head to Doylestown, Pa. to take on Delaware Valley on Saturday, Jan. 22. That game will begin at 1:00 p.m.
