Sam Lynam (Spinnerstown/Quakertown) scored 22 points and
Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer) added a season-high 21 points but it was enough as Wilkes University fell to Delaware Valley College 81-70 in Freedom Conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon in Doylestown.
The Lady Colonels found themselves down 7-3 less than three minutes into the game, but Kazmerski hit an open jumper and then knocked down a three-pointer as Wilkes took an 8-7 advantage. The Aggies responded with an 11-2 run, capped off by a layup by Emily Soper.

Angela Palmerio (Telford, PA/Lansdale Catholic) brought Wilkes to within five at 18-13, Delaware Valley went on a 7-2 run to take its first double-digit lead at 25-15 with 7:23 left in the first half. Palmerio then came back and hit another three and the Lady Colonels got a pair of free throws each from Lynam and
Amanda Pawlowski (Nanticoke, PA/Holy Redeemer) to get within three at 25-22 less than two minutes later.
The Aggies stretched their lead back to seven, but Wilkes got it back to three again after a Kazmerski layup with 3:04 left before going into the locker room down 34-28.
A three-pointer by
Whitney Connolly (Liberty, PA/Liberty) 2:01 into the second half cut the Aggies deficit to 38-33, but that would be the closest the Lady Colonels would get the rest of the way as Delaware Valley led by as many as 18 points in the 11-point victory.
After shooting just 24.1 percent in the first half, Wilkes converted 14-of-28 shots in the second half, including 6-of-9 from three, scoring 42 points. Unfortunately, Delaware Valley shot 47.1 percent in the second half, making 16 shots in the second 20 minutes to hold off the Lady Colonels rally.
Four Aggies scored in double-figures, led by Jackie Shunkwiler's 29 points in just 23 minutes. Soper finished with a double-double, getting 15 points and 14 boards while Brittany Battinieri scored also scored 15 and Sarah Innerst chipped in 11 off the bench.
Lynam finished just 5-of-14 from the floor, but went 10-of-10 from the foul line, adding eight rebounds and five assists in 37 minutes. In addition to her 21 points, Kazmerski grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists and went 3-of-5 from three-point range.
The Lady Colonels (3-13, 0-7) are now halfway through the first half of their conference schedule and will go on the road next Wednesday to face Commonwealth opponent Lycoming. Tip is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
