WILLIAMSPORT - Sam Lynam (Spinnerstown/Quakertown) continued her quest for 1,000 career points by scoring a game-high 22 but Wilkes University still fell to Lycoming College 68-54 in a Freedom-Commonwealth crossover women's basketball matchup on Wednesday night.

Lycoming gained the early edge and although the Lady Colonels weren't shooting well from the floor overall, they were hitting threes, keeping them in striking distance. A trey by Angela Palmerio (Telford, PA/Lansdale Catholic) brought Wilkes to within nine at 22-13 at the 8:33 mark, but the Warriors followed that up with a 6-1 run to take a 14-point advantage, their largest lead of the first half.

The Lady Colonels chipped away at the lead, with Lynam knocking down a three, followed by a pair of free throws and a layup to get Wilkes back to within nine. A layup by Palmerio a few minutes later at 1:17 brought the deficit to within five before the Warriors eventually went into the break up 40-33.

A three by Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer) 1:32 into the second half got the Lady Colonels to within four but the Warriors responded with eight straight points over the next 1:44 to take a 12-point lead. After trading baskets, another three by Lynam at 13:06 cut the Warriors lead to 10 before a foul shot by Whitney Connolly (Liberty, PA/Liberty) and an open jumper by Palmerio got the Lady Colonels back to within seven points with 11:13 remaining.

Again the Warriors responded by holding Wilkes scoreless and scoring seven straight points to go up on top 61-57 with 7:15 remaining. The Lady Colonels would again cut Lycoming's lead to seven with less than four minutes left, but the Warriors finished the game on another 7-0 run to take the win.

Julia Antonelli and Kaitlyn Ober each notched double-doubles for Lycoming, as Antonelli went for 20 points and 12 boards and Ober dropped 18 points with 11 rebounds. Erin Connaghan added 15 points for the Warriors.

Lynam finished 6-of-9 from the floor, including 4-of-5 from three-point range, as she now stands just 124 points shy of 1,000 with eight games remaining. Palmerio added 10 points in just 16 minutes on 4-of-6 shooting off the bench.

The Lady Colonels (3-14) return to their Freedom Conference schedule this Saturday as they host FDU-Florham at the Marts Center at 1:00 p.m.
