LADY COLONELS STAGE BIG SECOND HALF RALLY, GET WIN IN ALLENTOWN

ALLENTOWN - Sam Lynam (Spinnerstown/Quakertown) scored 27 points, including 16 in the second half as Wilkes University rallied from a 15-point halftime deficit to defeat Cedar Crest College 75-66 in a non-conference women's basketball matchup on Monday night in Allentown.

The Lady Colonels shot 50 percent from the floor and forced 13 Cedar Crest turnovers in the the second half, outscoring the Eagles 45-21.

Coming out of halftime down 45-30, the Lady Colonels started the second half on a 15-4 run, ignited by a three by Lynam and capped off by a layup from the senior guard at the 12:36 mark as Wilkes cut its deficit to 49-45. The teams traded buckets as the Lady Colonels could get no closer than three points.

After an open layup by Leann Wallower put the Eagles up 59-54 wih 5:52 left, Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer) responded with a layup and one to bring the Lady Colonels back to within two just 17 seconds later. A single free throw by Lynam and an offensive putback by Helen Lawry (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills - Ballston Lake) 31 seconds later gave the Lady Colonels their first lead since the 17:02 mark in the first half.

A layup by Lizzy Sunderhaus on Cedar Crest's next trip down the floor gave the Eagles the lead again at 61-60, but free throws by Lynam just eight seconds later after a foul by Sunderhaus put Wilkes back on top with 4:24 left to play.

A layup by Whitney Connolly (Liberty, PA/Liberty) after a Cedar Crest turnover 1:17 later and a three-pointer by Lynam on the Lady Colonels next trip down the floor put them up by five 67-62 with 2:31 remaining. Wilkes went on to force two more turnovers and make all of their free throws to complete the comeback and win by nine.

The first half saw the Eagles convert 50 percent of their shots in building their 15-point halftime lead. However they converted just 8-of-28 second half shots compared to 16-of-32 for the Lady Colonels.

Sunderhaus finished with 25 points and 22 rebounds, going 10-of-13 from the floor with three assists, three steals and two blocks. Wallower added 16 points and Amber Wehry chipped in 13.

Lynam went 4-of-9 from the field in the second half, including 2-of-3 from three, finishing 9-of-21 from the floor overall. She also went 7-of-8 from the foul line, adding eight rebounds and two steals. Lynam now has 937 career points, needing just 63 more in the remaining six games to reach the 1,000-point milestone.

Kazmerski finished with 19 points, going 8-of-18 from the field, with eight boards, five assists and four steals. Connolly added 14 points and four assists.

The Lady Colonels (5-14, 1-7) look for a three-game win steak as they hit the court again on Wednesday, hosting Misericordia University at the Marts Center. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
