WILKES WOMEN'S BASKETBALL GAME NOTES VS. MARYWOOD

AT A GLANCE
The Lady Colonels are back on the road for their third away contest of the season in a matchup with Marywood University in the Insalaco Arena. Wilkes looks to snap a three-game losing streak to the Pacers with the most recent defeat coming last season at home, 63-48. Last time in Scranton, Pa. in 2009-10, Wilkes dropped a 68-63 decision.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Wilkes pushed their winning streak to three games with a 96-50 non-league win against Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Saturday in their home debut. Five players scored in double figures to lead the way for Wilkes. Fr. G Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) finished with 19 points, Sr. G Whitney Connolly (Liberty, PA/Liberty) had 14, Sr. G Angela Palmerio (Telford, PA/Lansdale Catholic) 14 and Fr. G Besiana Sheshi (Baltimore, MD/Maryvale Preparatory) 13 tallies. Fr. F Allison Walsh (Dickson City, PA/Mid Valley) had 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds recording her first career double-double in the Navy and Gold for the Lady Colonels. Sr. PG Amanda Pawlowski (Nanticoke, PA/Holy Redeemer) led the Lady Colonels with a total of seven assists adding five points and one steal. Jr. G Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer) had five points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals to seal the win for Wilkes.
 
The 96 points was the second most points scored in a single game at Wilkes in the program's 51 years of existence. On February 28th, 1979 Wilkes scored 114 points against Misericordia.
 
WHO'S BACK
Wilkes returns four players from a season ago, including two of its top three scorers in Jr. G Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer) and Sr. G Whitney Connelly. Jr. G Amanda Pawlowski (Nanticoke, PA/Holy Redeemer) and Jr. G Angela Palmerio (Telford, PA/Lansdale Catholic) are also back combining for 27 starts last season in the Lady Colonel backcourt. THE CAPTAINS
The Lady Colonels are captained by Sr. G Whitney Connelly and Jr. G Amanda Pawlowski (Nanticoke, PA/Holy Redeemer).
 
Whitney brings her all-around game back to the Lady Colonels for her final season, as she has 77 games and 51 starts under her belt. For the season, Connolly averages 7.3 ppg and 3.0 rpg shooting 75.0 percent (6-8) from the charity stripe. Pawlowski, a junior captain, is also one of the most experienced Lady Colonels. Playing in 52 career games earning 51 starts, she has logged over 1,475 minutes on the court for Wilkes. Pawlowski is the floor general for Wilkes averaging 6.3 apg through three contest.
 
THE SCORER
Kazmerski led the Lady Colonels in scoring as a freshman scoring 11.5 ppg in her 26.6 mpg of action, then followed that ranking second on the team last year at 11.4 ppg in 31.1 mpg of play. She hit double figures 19 times during the season, including the final seven contests. With a 34.3 FG%, Kazmerski went 111-324 from the floor and also led the team with 7.5 rpg, including 153 defensive boards (6.1 pg). Kazmerski jumped out to a quick start this season averaging 11.7 ppg and a team-best 7.7 rpg. She registered her first double-double of the year pouring in 18 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in the win at Keystone last week.
 
ALL-AROUND
One of the most versatile players for the Lady Colonels, Connelly has been a major contributor on both ends of the floor this season. Connelly, the lone senior on this year's squad, has taken a large leadership role for Wilkes in the backcourt. She averages 7.3 ppg and 3.0 rpg starting all three contests at shooting guard for Wilkes. She possesses the ability to break down defenders and create scoring opportunities for herself and her teammates. Connolly has hit 33.3 percent (8-24) of her shots from the field in 21.0 mpg.
 
RUNNING THE POINT
A 23-game starter as a sophomore last year, Pawlowski returns to the point for the Lady Colonels this year. Pawlowski registered six or more assists in every contest thus far this season for Wilkes. For the season, she is averaging 3.7 points, 6.3 assists and 2.0 rebounds in 25.5 minutes per-contes
