WILKES-BARRE- Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer) finished with a double-double and Sam Lynam (Spinnerstown/Quakertown) inched closer to 1,000 career points, but Wilkes University fell to Eastern University 70-58 Wednesday night in Freedom Conference women's basketball action.

The Lady Colonels started on an 18-6 run to begin the contest, capped off by a Lynam three-pointer at the 16 minute mark. Eastern battled back and finished the first half on a 30-12 run to take the lead at the break, 36-30. Eastern guard Shante Jones had 23 first half points behind 9-of-12 shooting.

The Eagles stretched the lead to 10 halfway through the second half. The Lady Colonels came within six with 6:22 remaining, but two quick layups by Jess Ogden and Bekah Roland put the game away.

For Wilkes, Kazmerski had a strong game with 14 points and 11 boards. Whitney Connolly (Liberty, PA/Liberty) registered a team-high 17 points, going 10-of-10 from the foul line. Lynam ended with 15 points and is only 15 shy of 1,000 career points with three games remaining on the schedule. She retained sole possession of 9th place on the all-time scoring list at Wilkes with 985 career points, passing Denise Carson (1988-92; 978 points).

Jones finished with a double-double for the Eagles, ending with 31 points and 10 rebounds. Roland, Ogden, and Katie Lincoln had 15, 10, and 10 points, respectively.

The defeat puts the Lady Colonels at 5-17 overall (1-10 Freedom). The victory improves Eastern to 14-8 overall (6-5 Freedom).

Wilkes faces Delaware Valley on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Marts Center as the Lady Colonels celebrate Senior Day by honoring Lynam, Brittany Ely (Montrose/Montrose) and Erin Schneider (Colchester, CT/Holy Name).
