Box Score

SALEM, VA – Freshmen Gabby Ford (Elmont, NY/Sewanhaka) and Keri Meerholz (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) each totaled nine points as Wilkes University easily defeated Hollins University 16-3 in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia.

Ford and Meerholz both scored five goals and added four assists, while Ford's 10 ground balls came within one of the school's single game record.

Ford got the Lady Colonels (1-1) on the board 1:48 into the game with an unassisted goal. Hollins responded a minute later as Erica Bruce found the back of the net to knot the score at one a piece.

The scoring continued as Meerholz got her first score of the evening off a pass from Olivia Dworak (Dupont, PA/Wyoming Seminary). After two goals a minute apart gave Hollins a 3-2 lead less than six minutes into the game, Wilkes went on a scoring binge, reeling off eight straight goals over the course of 21 minutes of action.

Ford got the streak going with back-to-back goals on assists from Meerholz. She would score one more before half while Meerholz added three and Dworak and Lindsey Davenport (Dallas, PA/Dallas) each added one.

In the second half, the Lady Colonels shutout Hollins 6-0 as Dworak scored three goals in less than five minutes.

Cassie Cronin (Manchester, NH/Manchester Memorial) got the start in the net, needing to go just 8:02 minutes before turning it over to Justine Thimmel (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock), who finished with eight saves.

Dworak scored seven points on four goals and three assists while Davenport had two goals to round out the scoring for the Lady Colonels.

The game was played on the turf at nearby Roanoke College due to the heavy rain dousing Hollins grass home field.

The Lady Colonels turn it around quickly, traveling north to Grantham, Pennsylvania for their Middle Atlantic Conference opener against Messiah College on Friday. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
