WILKES-BARRE – After defeating Eastern on Friday afternoon, the Colonels completed the sweep of the Eagles at Artillery Park on Saturday, downing Eastern 3-2 and 5-4 and moving to 8-4 (3-0) on the season. Ryan Fetterman (Endicott, NY/Maine Endwell ) and Sean Flecknoe (Wilkes-Barre, PA/G.A.R.) each picked up wins for Wilkes on the afternoon.

Fetterman got the start in game one, and Eastern was the first to strike, scoring one run in the second inning and one in the third. The Colonels struggled at the plate, but in the fifth inning Al Clocker (Swoyersville/Wyoming Valley West) and Rich Cosgrove (Wilkes-Barre/Meyers) each walked, advancing to second and third on a passed ball. After a Mike Olerta (Springfield, VA/Robert E. Lee) groundout that scored Clocker, Carmen Lopresto (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) hit a single to score Cosgrove and tie the game at two.

Fetterman dominated through the late innings, and in the bottom of the seventh Wilkes had a chance to break the tie. Clocker walked once again and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Scott Skammer (Dallas, PA/Dallas) then came up and slapped a base hit up the middle, driving home Clocker and securing the victory for the Colonels.

Fetterman surrendered only one earned run in the contest while striking out four batters and never surrendering a big inning. Wilkes collected just three hits in the game, but the singles by Lopresto and Skammer helped life the Colonels to their fifth straight victory.

Flecknoe got the nod in game two, and got some support from his offense in the first inning. First, Matt Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) knocked in Lopresto on a single to put the Colonels on the board. Then, Ruch stole second, drawing the throw and allowing Tom Plessl (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) to steal home, giving Wilkes a 2-0 lead early on.

In the sixth, Wilkes held a 5-3 lead when the Eagles loaded the bases with one out. After a groundout that scored a run, relief pitcher Angus Neary (Old Forge/Riverside) got the next batter to fly out to left field, working his way out of the dilemma.

Wilkes entered the seventh inning with the 5-4 lead, placing closer Mark Siebel (Rumson, NJ/Rumson Fair Haven) on the mound for another save opportunity. The junior surrendered just one walk before retiring his third batter to seal the 5-4 win for Wilkes.

Flecknoe picked up his third win of the season in the contest, surrendering only one earned run and striking out three batters in five innings. Siebel picked up his fourth save of the season, and sealed the sixth win in a row for the Colonels. Lopresto finished three-for-three with two RBI's, while Ruch had two hits with an RBI to carry Wilkes offensively.

The Colonels will look to continue their winning streak when they host Baptist Bible on Thursday, March 24. That game will begin at 3:30 p.m.
