Game One Box \ Game Two Box

DOYLESTOWN – Ryan Fetterman (Endicott, NY/Maine Endwell ) pitched a spectacular game one and Tom Plessl (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) drove in three runners as the Colonels took one-of-two from Delaware Valley on Thursday in Freedom Conference play at Doylestown. Wilkes won the first game 9-2 before falling 4-2 in game two.

The Colonels wasted no time getting on the board in game one, as Matt Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) drove in Carmen Lopresto (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) and Plessl score soon after on a double play ball, giving Wilkes an early 2-0 advantage. Delaware Valley scored one run in the third, but Wilkes exploded in the fourth as Rich Cosgrove (Wilkes-Barre/Meyers), Plessl, Ruch, and Angus Neary (Old Forge/Riverside) all drove in runs to give the Colonels a 7-1 lead.

Wilkes tacked on one run in both the sixth and seventh, while the Aggies manufactured one score in the seventh to make the final count, 9-2. Fetterman pitched six innings in the game, giving up six hits and only one run. Plessl led the way offensively, driving in three runs and scoring three of his own. Ruch knocked in two batters, while Neary collected two hits.

In game two each team scored two runs in the first inning, with Joel Watson (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) driving in a run for Wilkes, and scoring again later in the inning. The difference in the contest was the fourth inning where the Aggies scored two runs and left the bases loaded, giving them a 4-2 edge.

In the fifth inning Wilkes had two runners on with no outs, but had consecutive strikeouts, leaving two stranded. In the sixth and seventh innings Wilkes again had runners on and in scoring position, but couldn't come through with a crucial hit, falling 4-2.

Zach Lazar (Berwick, PA/Berwick Area) stared the game for the Colonels, pitching four innings and giving up just three hits, but also four runs. Wilkes had eight hits in the contest, but struggled hitting with runners in scoring position, as Watson recorded the only RBI on the day.

With the split Wilkes moves to 14-13, 8-9 in Freedom Conference play. It will continue its hunt for the postseason when it hosts Baptist Bible on Friday, April 22. That game will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Artillery Park.
