Game One Box / Game Two Box

SCRANTON – Angus Neary (Old Forge/Riverside)'s four hits and two homeruns and starter Sean Flecknoe (Wilkes-Barre, PA/G.A.R.) allowed just a single run in game one helped the Colonels to a 12-3 win but they fell to the University of Scranton 14-3 in game two as Wilkes University split with the Royals in doubleheader baseball action on Tuesday afternoon at Connell Park.

Neary was a part of a big first game opening inning for the Colonels, hitting a two-run homer to left to help give Wilkes an early 4-0 lead.

After the Royals got on the board with a single run in the second, Wilkes struck back with seven runs in the third, including four homeruns, to break open a huge 11-1 lead.

After Neary led off the inning with a homer to left, Tay Sidler (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville Area) followed him with a solo shot of his own. Two batters later, Joe Dantas (Reading, PA/Fleetwood) got the Colonels third homerun of the inning, taking his to left center.

After back-to-back doubles from Tom Plessl (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) and Scott Skammer (Dallas, PA/Dallas), Matt Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) brought everyone home with his homerun blast to left.

Meanwhile on the mound, Flecknoe scattered seven hits over his six innings of work, allowing just that one run to cross the plate and striking out five.

The Royals managed two score more runs, getting a two-run homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Neary was one of nine Colonels to collect at least one hit as Wilkes posted 16 total base hits in the opener.

In game two, Scranton got off to a good start with a run in each of the first two innings. The Colonels came back with three in the top of the third, including an RBI doubles from Tyler Marino (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Meyers).

Unfortunately, that would be the only runs for Wilkes in the game, as the Royals went on to score 12 more runs, including eight in the fifth, to get the win.

After the big first game, the Colonels were only able to get six hits in game two, giving up 14 to the Royals.

The Colonels finish their season with a 21-16 overall record, going 11-10 in the Freedom Conference to miss this weekend's tournament by a half-game to rival King's College.
