STAMBONE POURES IN 17 POINTS IN A 68-47 DEFEAT AT KING'S
 
WILKES-BARRE, Pa – Freshman Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) had a game high 17 points for Wilkes University in a 68-47 loss at cross-town rival King's College Wednesday evening from the Scandlon Gymnasium.
 
The Lady Colonels fall to 4-11 on the year and 0-5 in the conference.  The Lady Monarch's improve to 13-3 overall and 5-0 in Freedom play.
 
King's won the opening tip-off and scored first on the board.  Wilkes tied it up with a basket by Whitney Connolly (Liberty, PA/Liberty).  The first three pointer of night for Wilkes by Stambone cut the lead to just one, 6-5 with fifteen and change left.  A layup by Angela Palmerio (Telford, PA/Lansdale Catholic) put the Lady Colonels up by one, as it was their first lead of the night.  Three free throws by Amanda Pawlowski (Nanticoke, PA/Holy Redeemer) put Wilkes up by one, 10-9 with 11:12 left in the half. Two possessions later Whitney Connolly (Liberty, PA/Liberty) increased the lead for the Lady Colonels to three points.  A 7-0 run by the Lady Monarchs gave King's a 19-14 advantage with 4:10 remaining.  A steal and driving layup by Stambone cut their deficit to four.  At the half King's held a slight edge 26-22.
 
To open the second half a layup by Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer) put Wilkes within two, 26-24.  A three pointer by Stambone notched the game up at 29 with 16:18 left to play. Using a 17-2 run mid-way through the second half King's took a 20 point advantage with 6:16 left, 55-35.  The Lady Monarchs never looked back after that claiming the 68-47 conference victory.
 
Stambone led the way for Wilkes with 17 total points on the night shooting 7-for-12 from the floor. Kazmerski added eleven points and six rebounds.  Allison Walsh (Dickson City, PA/Mid Valley) garnered 11 rebounds on the night, a team high.
 
Three players for King's hit double figures.  Samantha Simcox led the squad with 19 points shooting 3-for-5 behind the arc.
 
King's dominated in the paint outrebounding Wilkes 55-47, including 27 offensive rebounds.
 
Wilkes University is back in action this Saturday as they go up against FDU-Florham in Freedom Conference play at the Marts Center.  Tip-off is set for 1:00 pm.
