THREE LADY COLONELS HIT DOUBLE FIGURES AS WILKES FALLS ON THE ROAD AT DEL VAL, 77-66

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Three players for the Wilkes women's basketball team hit double figures on the road as they fell at Delaware Valley, 77-66.

The Lady Colonels slip to 5-14 on the year and 0-8 in the conference.  The Aggies move to 12-7 on the season and 3-5 in Freedom action.

Wilkes took the first possession of the game and Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer) got the Lady Colonels on the right foot by draining a three-pointer with 18:04 to play.  Both teams battled on the court throughout the afternoon as it was a very close game in the first half.  At the ten minute marker Delaware Valley held an extremely slight edge up 16-15.  The Lady Colonels never backed down as they took another lead to go up by one with a jumper by Amanda Pawlowski (Nanticoke, PA/Holy Redeemer) taking a 27-26 lead with 3:58 left in the first stanza.  The Aggies took their largest lead of six points at halftime, 35-29. 

Delaware Valley opened the second half of play on a 6-0 run led by Shannon Barlow.  The Aggies took control of the game and the Lady Colonels did as much as they could to get back into as they were down by 23 points, the largest deficit of the afternoon.  With ten minutes left in the game Delaware Valley was up 67-44.  Wilkes went on a 5-0 run to get back in the game with 4:31 left cutting the deficit to 70-55.  With 45 seconds remaining, the Lady Colonels moved to within ten points with a layup by Kazmerski.  Angela Palmerio (Telford, PA/Lansdale Catholic) knocked down a bucket beyond the arc with just seconds left in the game but the Aggies were too strong as they took their third conference victory. 

Three players for Wilkes hit double figures Kazmerski (12), Palmerio (11) and Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) (11).  Pawlowski led the way with four assists while also putting up seven points.  Allison Walsh (Dickson City, PA/Mid Valley) and Whitney Connolly (Liberty, PA/Liberty) both garnered seven rebounds off the glass.

Emily Soper for the Aggies had a double-double (19 points and 10 rebounds).
 
The first half saw twelve lead changes between the two teams.  In the second stanza Wilkes and Delaware Valley both scored 14 points in the paint.

Wilkes is back in action as they travel to Dallas, Pa to take on Misericordia in Freedom play on Wednesday, February 1st.  Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
